Ummm...the H701 will work. It will accept up to 3 digital inputs (optical only) and you can switch between them. If you don't want to use the w300, you can use the RUX-c701 contoller to make it stand-alone.
Alright guys...I have an Alpine head unit. It is the IVA-W300. It is capable of controlling the H701, but I have since found out that it is going to be a hassle to allow it to control my NON-Alpine devices. I currently have a Dish Network HDTV satellite receiver and a PC in my truck. I would like to have the dolby outputs on both to output in my vehicle. From what I can tell there is no processor that will work stand alone and I can plug any optical output into it and it output dolby digital. Do you guys have any suggestions or am I totally stuck?

How am I able to switch between inputs? I was told by Alpine if it wasn't an Alpine Ai-Net device it wouldn't even show the input as being available. Do you have anymore details?
Not sure on your W300 device but they might be right about that. The RUX controller though allows you to select the digital inputs as well as the analog inputs in one of the menus. It's not a quick one button push kind of thing though.
I'll check with my friend to see if his alpine HU will allow him to select different digital inputs on his h701. I think I recall him saying he couldn't.

Anyone else have any suggestions?
I'm currently using the H701 + controller, and yes, it will take three inputs via toslink. However, switching between them is a pain ("setup" + "input setup" + scroll down to "digital (1, 2, or 3)" with volume knob + "enter" + "setup" + "setup" (to back out)). If anyone knows a quicker way, I'd be grateful.
That, and if anyone knows a transparent, bit-perfect USB sound card that can ouput 44.1 over toslink, and when sat radio is active in RoadRunner, take input over toslink and pass thru to toslink out, without additional navigation of software menus besides selecting between "satellite" and "music" in RR, I'd be grateful.
I have too much time and too little aggravation in my life, so I built a carPC. ;)
There is a chaintech card that does bit perfect and it's cheap. Something like $20 or so. I don't know how well it will do this or if it's got toslink inputCan you use girder to perform some of those actions? (I have not used girder myself so I don't know. Just suggesting it)take input over toslink and pass thru to toslink out, without additional navigation of software menus besides selecting between "satellite" and "music" in RR, I'd be grateful.

Always the down 'n dirty way..
THAT WOULD LOOK SO COOOOOL ON MY DASH AND MY WIFE WOULD LOVE IT! [/sarcasm]![]()
Yeah, I'm looking into AutoIT or AutoHotKey as we speak, but not much written about sound card control of this nature, believe it or not. I did some similar searching for a plugin to turn on/off my Audigy's spdif input via my tv's remote, never got anywhere with it...I'm an engineer, good at programming but I hate it. Normally, I look to software vendors and teh intarweb, but it looks like I'll have to buckle down on it.
Anyone have any experience w/ using the M-audio transit in this fashion? Much info about this card on this forum (searched) but seemingly no one is using my "dream" config.

hithere, does your H701 work to switch the input without it being a alpine device? I am not worried about a few punches of buttons, I just want to make sure that it works. My main question is, Will it work with NON-Alpine devices and be able to switch between inputs (that means analog AND digital) with just the touch of a few buttons?
