Im confused on what to do?

ok so i got a 7.1 card for my carputer and am almost done but have questions....

the main reason for my carputer is to listen to music but ocassionly want to watch dvds...

the question is do all my speakers have to be the same wattage?

right now the only componet of the audio system i have is a 3000 watt sub with a 6000 watt peak..

i was thinkin about doing 100 watt componets for my rear and rear surrounds and a 300 watt componet for the front and i dunno for the center channal.

the main goal is great audio for music lisitning and the occasional dvd...

    anyone have any ideas

i hope u can understand my goal

If you only want to watch the occasional DVD, then don't bother with full-on 5.1 surround. You're going to spend a lot of time & money implementing something that you will rarely use.

I'd recommend using the same wattage of speakers (or similar, at least) front and rear. Most audiophiles w8ill suggest forgetting about the rear all together.

    In Theory...

Can I Turn the other 5 speakers off and Just have the Front and Subs going?

Since I am Going for a more of a Audiophile System Would it be better to get a Head unit and do the out from the computer to the aux in?

You should be able to configure the soundcard drivers for 2.1 operation, yes.

Speakers themselves do not have wattage. Their watt specs describe the range of wattage they can handle, or sound best at.

Or did you mean a 2 channel amplifier that will send 300 watts(150 watts per channel) to the the front speakers, and another 2 channel amplifier that will send 100 watts(50 per channel) to the rear speakers?

Not to Sound Like a jerk or anything...

I have a Degree in Acoustic Engineering and Can Really Tell you what a Watt is...

    What I was Implying is...

2 300 watt (600 watt peak) Componets up front
2 100 watt ( 240 peak ) componets in Rear and Rear Surrounds
1 3000 watt (6000 watt peak) Sub in Trunk

I was asking how that would sound or If that would be horribly unbalanced?

I think he was asking about what you meant. Is your amp capable of the power you have listed, or are you just listing the specs of you speakers. If it's the first, then it will depend on how you overall balance the system. If it's the second statement, there is definitelly not enough info. IMO 3000W on a sub is a ton of power, but if it's an inefficient sub in a sealed box then it might be fine. But you already know that don't you.

Either way, if you give us more details then we might be able to give you better advice.

Those are the speakers I am looking at...
