    Crossing audio and video wiring...

    Alright here's the deal.

My wife got an iPod. I want to be able to let her plug her ipod into my car cleanly and easily (with the stipulation that she doesn't try to overrun me with crappy music)

I have a single RCA jack on the dashboard now running into my Liliput's VIDEO 1 input. I use it to plug my digital camera in so I can see my pictures before I get home. That kind of thing.

I can easily put a splitter on that connector that send an RCA wire to the Liliput and another to the RCA audio connectors heading to my head unit. (And the iPod would just need a phono plug to RCA adapter to get it plugged in to the dash)

This WILL work. I have no questions about how to wire it or if the set up will work. I know for a fact that it will.

My question is about damage to the Liliput and head unit. Would an audio signal transmitted to the liliput's video input and a video signal transmitted to the head unit's auxiliary audio input cause damage to either unit?

I'd only be using one or the other at a time, so that wouldn't be a problem. It's all about what kind of damage might be done to the other device when I'm using one of them.

    Any thoughts?

by the sounds of it mate i think you are making it more complicated than it really is.

What is powering your speakers? your deck?
Just get some RCA 2 to 1. double adaptors and use them at your input.

I have used these when i run my mp3 player/dvd player and my deck through my amps. At the same time they will not work as the signal gets jumbled.

So.. if you have your deck running your speakers and you have what ever going through the input. Put in the double adaptors into the RCA ports or what ever input it is. And then just run one from the left and one from the right channel into a headphone jack port for the ipod and the other 2 can go to what ever else you may have going into the deck.

It wont cause any damage But it just wont work if you have more than 1 signal going through the cables at the one time.

Just as long as you dont have both devices hooked up to the input at a single instance while you are using one of them, you are fine. But I cannot stress enough how much damage it can cause to your devices while in use when you have them plugged in at the same time.
As far as accidentially putting a audio signal to the video input, It shouldnt cause too much damage if any at all to the screen or the device as long as you don't have it connected for very long.
