PC to Car Wiring Harness

i've read the FAQ of how to get the sound from PC to your car...but that only works if you have a headunit.

I took out my stock headunit and replaced it with my Monitor. Now I am trying to get the sound from my PC to the car, but I dont have a middle man to run it through (ie. headunit or amp).

Is there an adapter that converts stock wiring harness to an AUX IN or is there a way to splice into seperate wires?

any help would be appreciated. thanks.

The audio signal of the PC is very low, hence the need for some form of amplification before going to the speakers.
I've heard of line-out converters, but have no idea as to their worth.

Just get a modest 4-channel amp.

Go from carputer ==>to rca adapter ==> amp ==> wire harness adapter so you don't cut up your stock wires

carputer -> rca adapter -> amp

makes perfect sense...

can you explain the amp to wire harness part?? ive never seen a wire adapter like that, can you link me for a basic generic amp to wire harness adapter kit?? thanks

It's the harness you'd pick up to install an after market HU in the car. You just run the various speaker lines to your amp, then you don't have to run directly to your speakers (or cut up your factory harness).

Just make sure to secure the 12v and ACC lines on the harness so they won't short if you aren't using them.

okay got plenty of questions....

i got the wire harness.

i will not be using +12V constant and ACC line constant...so i can insulate them..

however there is a - Ground(chassis) and - AMP Ground wires, do i have to run these to their appropriate grounds??? or can i also insulate them..

also AMP power on wire i will be running to the AMP..so im assuming i will need the ground as well...

and on a side note, the guy in an audio shop told me that a painted ground will work better than a bare metal ground...is he smoking something?? or is he correct....

He's smoking something. Maybe the paint chips from the bare metal ground.

The grounds from the wiring harness you can just insulate.

I agree, always ground to bare metal if at all possible.

As far as the wires, the only thing you need from the harness (at least as far as the amp is concerned) are the speaker wires. You'll need to run your power cable directly from the battery and a short cable (6" or so) to your nearest BARE

metal ground point.

You also need to hook a remote lead up to the amp so it knows when to turn on. If you are using a PSU made for the car environment, they typically have have a line for this. Otherwise you'll need to use the ACC line from the harness (or any 12v switched line), but this isn't best because there is no delay so you'll get popping noise when your computer wakes/boots (after a few times, you'll remember to turn your volume down before you shut off the car

).
