I wouldn't risk it either. I've just heard of people that don't anchor their custom boxes because they're a snug fit.

You can use velcro........you would be surprised how strong it is!

Just as long as you cover the entire sub floor and wherever else it comes into contact with the carpet, you will be fine!

i dont care how strong the velcro is it will not be as effective then screwing it down. safety should be priority number 1 when installing anything.

Did an install in my best friends 1999 Escort hatchback. Hit a pole, the sub box broke through the back seat (fold down seat, steal back.. similar to Jan's GTI). The power wire on the amp kept the box from scrambling his brain.

Not only that, if you don't want a thief to take it, you want to bolt it down.

Sorry but I wil have to disagree. I don't see any problem with velcro. When I install installations that only consists of a single universal subcase I always use velcro at the bottom. In one of my previous cars it was done this way and even when I got rear ended the box stayed in place. This however only works when the carpet is ruggid and inforced in some way. If it's just a loose carpet it will fold and the entire thing will start sliding.

He is talking about an install in an accord. They have a complete seperate trunk. So even when in a serious collision and the box comes loose, where is it gonna go?

I prefer using methods that don't involve drilling holes in the car so that if wanted the car can be transformed back to it's original state. Also when drilling holes to the outside of the car, rust becomes an issue.

My install is made without a single screw in the cars bodywork. everthing is made so that it's pried in to the car. This thing doesn't move a millimeter.

its harder for people to steal a box thats bolted down than velcroed. also securin it down rather than velcro will also keep your equipment intact in the event your car flips over or some thing, you wouldnt want your equipment to slam around in the trunk

Would you be willing to test out newtons law to this subject? Id watch mabye even record it for some laughs later. You can't be serious that you think velcro would hold down a sub enclosure, I don't care how strong velcro is if your doing 65mph and slam the breaks that box is going to move! If you roll the car that cox is going to move. Get serious this isnt redneck auto improvement.

To the OP if your just looking for a cost effictive way to secure it just run an lbracket at every corner you will be good.

I agree, But here in Belgium burglery isn't that much of an issue. I guess in some places it would be an important factor, true.

But this is also the main advantage of velcro. Most people still want to have use of the trunk so they want to remove the box as easy as possible.

No it won't. Tested it when I got rear ended. Didn't move at all! Had it for two years. Never moved unless I wanted it to. It's also not intended to put a subbox in the middle of the trunk. Most people put it against the rear seats so when you brake it won't go anywhere even without fixation.

    This bites. See sig plzz.

Also everybody is talking about safety. It's a trunk people. In my dad's trunk sits a toolbox he needs for work. this thing is twice as heavy as a typical sub so when he has an accident this thing also will become airborne... in the trunk! Not in the cabin. In most trunks are things that are heavy. That's why it's a trunk. In hatchbacks maybe the safety becomes an issue, maybe. In sedans the box will not enter the passenger cabin.

To conclude: Everybody uses the way they want to secure a subbox. The guy asked where he could buy velcro and get flamed. His idea wasn't that bad at all. That's the point I want to make clear.

    Bimmerstyle,
Your car has a metal partition between the trunk, and the rear seat, correct? The back seat doesn't fold down, does it? You get where I'm headed here, right? Look at the bolt that holds in your spare tire, pretty sturdy, isn't it? It also goes in pretty deep, doesn't it? They do that because a spare tire can kill you if it wasn't bolted down, and those things are relatively light.

So for hatchbacks, SUVs or cars with fold down rear seats, there is enough potential energy to pretty much destroy anything in its way if it isn't bolted down. Just because something doesn't matter to you doesn't mean it doesn't matter.

This is a safety issue first, a theft issue next and frankly I wouldn't risk that with my own vehicle or loved ones in the car.
