I can hear my motor through my speakers/amp

Hey guys, I tried to mod my factory delco radio and ended up with a paper weight. Since i plan on doing tons of custom stuff in the radio slot i dont want another radio.

But for the NOW i needed some sound so i took a cheap aplifier out of some computer speakers, yes normal computer speakers. It had a 12v DC input.

I wired it up to my speakers and wired the power to the cars +12V but when i hook up my mp3 player and listen to music i can hear bleedthough from the motor for some reason.

Anyone know how i can fix this ? Its bad enough that the amp is so weak, but with the whining of my motor its really annoying!

its a ground loop. Simple fix, is use a ground loop isolator.

Well i would but this is just a temp fix. I just need sound for Now for the 7 hours i have to drive to school each week, normally i just listen to news radio or listen to lectures on my mp3.

With the space where my radio used to reside im making my own head unit, it will have a pic877 as the center, a back lit lcd and a computer (maybe amp) in my trunk. So i dont want to rush out and buy anything till i have it all planned out.

Thats the mistake i made with my stock radio (haste) and it no longer works. But thanks for the input people, i will go google that and try and rigg it up before i go to school.

Pick it up at Radio Shack...it's like 10 bucks.

are you running speakers wires next to electrical wires? the current flowing through the electrical wires in the car can cause interference with speaker wires, etc. So every time you hit the gas, more power flows, and you hear your engine through your stereo...Just run wires away from electrical wires and components...

Well thanks guys. All i did was ground it to the radio chassis and it (mostly) went away. You can barley hear it now, and if there is any music you cant hear it at all. Since its a temp fix im not going to worry about it too much. lesson learned
