A whine points to a ground loop issue. If you just installed the HU, it might be the problem. I know nothing about ipods though, so you'll have to wait for an expert on that one.
I just bought a new Kenwood cd player with front Aux jack, tried using the mini plug to headphone port on the Ipod and the sound is horrible, I get some type of loud whiney feedback when I listen to it and have to turn the Ipod ALLL the way up to even hear anything, and then I have to turn the CD player up very high to hear anything, and then I somtimes dont hear the vocals, but there is a high pitched whine from the speakers. It also sounds like its just background when its playing Anyone have issues like this connected AUX jacks with mini plugs? Is it because its not connected to the bottom of the Ipoid?
Someone also mentioned it might do a ground loop issue, not sure.

I purchased one of those retractable mini plugs with the dock plug on the other end, and it seemed to fix the issue of the echo and whine, however, whe I dont have it plugged in and switch the stereo to AUX, I still get the whine noise, so maybe it is some type of interference. I wonder how hard it is to install the loop.
I still have to turn the Ipod and radio up in order to hear the music. But maybe thats my radio. I think some have to be turned up louder then the tuner to hear. I wish I would have gotten the one with the USB port on it instead of mini plug though, im sure it would have worked better but I did not have 200 to spend on it plugs install.
