Opinions on an AuzenTech HDA X-PLOSION sound card?
I've been at this 'carputer thing for about 2 years now, but still consider myself a "newb" at most of it.
I recently bought a new car so my 'puter came out of the old one before I sell it. So, ver 1.0 is going into the new car. My new car comes with a factory 7.1 (really sucks though, it's coming out!) system, so there's lots of speaker mounting options.
My current setup runs an Audigy 4 with the kx drivers off a P4 dell gx270. The PCi sound card is connected to my line in's on my amps (just a couple pioneer 4 channels right now, GM6200t's IIRC) then out to my MB Quart components, the sub, etc.. This setup works pretty well to my ears, but I find myself wondering if there is more out there.
So, I find myself wanting to upgrade the sound a bit. I am considering purchasing an AuzenTech HDA X-PLOSION sound card, but need some advice.
I guess what I would like to know, is if I need to run a decoder between the sound card and the amps, or can I simply run the rca's like I did on the Audigy (straight to the amps)? Would the Auzentech be a worthwhile improvement over my ol' Audigy 4?
I've read up on the sound card and like the replacable op amp, on board 2 channel to dolby 5.1/7.1 decoding, etc, etc.Just seems to be nice and feature packed. I also like the idea of Red's modification to swap from 1/8 jacks to rca's. Very nice.
I'm more of a SQ guy, although I am on a budget and just starting off in this sq madness. I have no desire to compete or anything, but am always in pursuit of good sound. It's more about my personal satisfaction withthe sound than anything else (I like to feel like I'm at a concert when listing to the 'Stones).
I'd like to start off with the new sound card to build on and my existing components and work my way up to a decent sound sytem as time and budget allow. Or is this the wrong starting point?
I'm also just getting into flac and I'm hoping my new system will soon be up to snuff SQ wise. As I said, I'm hoping this card will be a good starting point to build on............
Red? Durwood? Anyone? ;)
Thanks for any constructive advice.
