Is there a dvd head unit that can be controlled with seperate touchscreen

I know there is plenty of flip out options and double din unit but I want something that has ipod interface and can be controlled through my 10" touchscreen. I have a mac mini already but it is not always in the car. So for the times its not in the car I would like to use my headunit and touchscreen.

No. There are no HUs that take external USB touchscreen control.

You would have to severly cannabalize something. If you were to get a HU with a vga board (it wont be a "feature" you have to look at the circuits and trace back pins and IC's). then you could splice that connection to a custom VGA cable and to your screen to get video with the menus and such. Then for the touchscreen, if it is 4wire resistive, you can splice the wires in your PC's touchscreen and using some switching relays or transistors make the presses align to the custom display.

Overall I would say a royal pain in the *** just to use a mac mp3 player. put the pc in the car, get a pc for your house and be done with it. Connect your ipod to the pc and use RoadRunners "ipod drive" option to read the ipod as a regular hd and be happy.

If you cannot reverse engineer, or are scared of datasheets, back away now and give up as you will rpboably create a paperweight from the new HU to cannabalize as well as the monitor you already have.
