There are a couple of different ways to do a spare tire sub enclosure. Usually the easiest way is to make a wood baffle that covers the entire well, and then use expanding foam to fill in the outer areas, and again on the inside edge where the baffle meets the metal. The problem is that the metal of the spare tire well will resonate so you need to deaden the metal.

2nd, You could build a partial wood, partial fiberglas enclosure, how to do that has been covered elsewhere. Its really no different in the spare tire well from anywhere else.

im assuming you would get as much rattle/resination then you would if it was mounted some were else.

would an s type sub would well in a tire enclosure to does it require a big box?

The reason that you have to worry about resonance with a spare tire well enclosure is in the 1st way i described the metal is part of the enclosure and the force of the sub is focused on that area, where as a sub box playing into the trunk is spreading that pressure over all of the sheet metal of the trunk. Just a layer or 2 of dynamat type material will take care of it. for a single 12" sub the spare tire well is typically too big, so you can either put something in the well to take up airspace or you can build the box so that it only takes up half of the well area.
