why do my front speakers bottom out?

Here is my current setup

This system sounds awesome when I listen to rock, but when I listen to rap, my front speakers seem to clip/distort pretty bad at louder volumes. I went and got these bass blockers

It helped a little, but not really all that much. Would my best bet be to get another amp for the speakers?

It's because you're trying to get those speakers to play frequencies that are too low for them. They aren't designed to play that low. That's why subs exist.

Without looking at that HU, I'm going to assume it doesn't have any kind of cross over function built in.

Pick up a decent amplifier with built in cross overs and set the cross over for high pass (this allows only the higher frequencies to go through). Since you're using such small speakers up front, you need to set the high pass for 250 Hz or more. If the 4 channel amplifier that you get has the ability to set 2 channels at one cross over point and the other two at another cross over point, set the rears at 120 Hz or so high pass.

remember you wont always get that good performance out of teh front door speakers unless you put some effort into the enclosure. Usually there isnt enough air inside the door panel to enable decent bass.

for clearer sound from yoru front crossing over your fronts will definaltly help like the guy before me mentioned

3.5" speakers don't need that much air space....a bet a door is ample space for speakers of that size...and I'm no 'guy'...

oops XD Forgive me *bows slightly

You sure about tha air space? I've had soem soundstreams preform way better after a custom enclosure on the door to provide more air :0

unless you talkign like 15W it wont make that much of a deal =\ or if you werent asking for more mid-bass

It is actually front panel speakers and not door speakers, if that makes a difference.

It's for an 86 dodge 600.

can someone link me to a guide showing what you mean by crossover? Or how to go about setting them up in my car.

suggest try setting the speaker setting to "small after market speakers"
