2001 Corvette Stock Speaker Questions
So here's the setup, I have a 2001 Corvette coupe. I plan to put a pc in it. It would be great if I could use the stock head unit, but that wont work because I'm gonna put my screen there. I would like to retain use of the stock Bose speakers, I think they sound good. I would really like to have surround sound capability for watching DVD's in the car. I guess you would call this a 5.1 setup. Currently I have the PAC audio RCA output adapter (for my sub) it converts the stock HU signal into a set of RCA's for front and rear.
So a couple of questions:
Do you need a specific type of sound card to run a surround setup? If so what type?
I've heard that the factory Bose speakers wont work without the stock HU. Is this true, or will the PAC audio adapter allow me to basically input whatever signal I want? (beacuse it splices into the stock wiring harness) I'm assuming if I go this route I will need to add an amplifyer.
I would like to avoid running new wiring to the door/rear speakers if at all possible, I would also like to retain the Bose powered door "sub" as it adds nice mid-range base.
Any suggestions are appreciated. Scott, I know you know the corvette sound system inside and out.
