I'm no car audio expert, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night........
If your amps are getting really hot then you are over-driving them. Either you have too much hooked up to them, or just simply the load is too high for them to function efficiently. (i.e. pairs of 4 ohm dvc subs on a bridged circuit)
Check your impedance values, the specs of your amps, and your wiring. If everything checks out ok, get better amps, or smaller speakers.
****Forgot to mention something that should be a no-brainer..... make sure your line in is low level and clean. I've seen my share of amplifiers fry from high and/or dirty inputs.

I went to Future shop and was told that 2005-2006 MTX amps were recalled for getting too hot.
