    DSP configuration

So I finally got the right version of kxproject installed (only 3538j will work with the SBA2ZSNB) and working. I'm still struggling with getting the pops and such out of the sound on the carputer, but the card and software are fine as I'm configuring my settings using my other laptop so I can carry it out to the car to test before the final install and everything works great.

I figured I'd post what I'm working on. I may get some useful input from you guys, or maybe it'll just be a post that will help others at some point. Right now I'm expecting to stumble through this myself for the most part.

So here is my goal with the kx DSP. I want each set of speakers to have it's own EQ, and I haven't decided yet on the 10 band that comes with it or the 5 band parametric that can be added, or maybe both chained together. I'll get the DB meter and rough tune each channel to get everything how I want to make up for deficiencies in the speakers, speaker placement, and acoustic environment as best as I can.

I also want to mess with phase adjustment and timing on all channels.

I also want to use some crossovers. I want to use my 6x9s just as midbass drivers basically so I want to cut out highs. No need to have those coming from behind me for music. I would want to set it up to run them full range with a surround sound input though, which I believe I can do by having the true 5.1 audio bypass the crossover and just go through an EQ. My biggest concern here is figuring out how the crossovers function to see if they will be good enough to use. There also may be extra plug ins for crossovers that people have programmed that I could use.

Also from what I have read, I can "rewire" the card to use the output as another input. This would give me the ability to plug my optical XM into the input and have the HD radio running into the headphone output.

Right now I'm playing with modifying the default DSP to learn my way around. Next week, I clear the DSP and build it from scratch. I'll keep my progress posted.

Once I get this right, it will all go out to an Audiocontrol Matrix before my amps and I'll have one *****in sound system on a relatively low budget. Getting the source to be of high quality is my way of putting a fairly budget amp and speaker setup (not made out of crap, but very entry level) to sound good.
Computer is in the car, but in a very "raw" install right now.

you been to the kx forums i assume?

and ill dig up my way basic DSP for you if you want

2 in 8 out and a tone generator, keep it simple

should be easy to put eq inline to each pair of outputs

    edit:
dug it up.. its pretty basic... but works

Yeah I've been lurking the kx forums.

I can ditch a lot of the default kx stuff since I have zero intention of doing any of the music recording that kx was originally designed for. I care about inputting the radios and outputting to the speakers. Just gotta do the DSP in between.

Should be mostly straight forward once I really know what all of the inputs and outputs are on each box. There are a few that are labeled in ways so I don't get exactly what they are, but I've got some more reading to do from the kx walkthroughs on the kx forums before I resort to asking questions. I should be able to get through it all. I'm personally very excited.

I also forgot to mention if the crossover is good, I want to filter out the highs in the DSP for the subs as opposed to having the amp do it. I didn't go super high end on the amp, so I would think Kx would do a better job with that. This isn't critical, but would be nice.

give me a msn if you get stuck

i have 5 computers running KX at work and i think i can still remember how it all works

like most things once you work out their weird way of doing things its easy if you are careful. i dont have kx on the pc in front of me so im only going from memory

i think the easyest way to get a physical input was to use ac97 selectable source for changing imputs.. or having more than one, i think i used the cd in on the card i had.. not sure how it works with the notebook one
    ahh found it
