    Sound system begginer question

    Hello

Most of HUs I see has 4 output channels and amps too
e.g my amp has 4 channels with 2 filters.
how to connect more than 4 speakers?
    e.g 4 tweeters , 4 speakers and sub

you'll need another amp for the sub and then passive x-overs for the mids and tweets.

if your amp has a bypass output you can send the full range output to the second amp then use the amp's x-over to control the frequencies to the sub

you'll then use the passive x-overs to take the signal from the amp and split it to the mids and tweets

    Thanks for reply.
My amp is JBL CS60.4 4 Channels
Do you recommend x-over model or brand?
and what is the difference between active and passive x-over?

are you looking to install component speaker sets? or install separate speakers and tweeters?

components come as matched sets with their own crossovers. if you buy separate tweeters, then they will usually have their own high-pass filters on them. is not necessary to buy a crossover, but if you do it will make your system sound better by sending the high frequencies only to the tweeters (otherwise the high frequencies will be reproduced by both the speakers and tweeters).

as for wiring 8 speakers (4 full range speakers and 4 tweeters) to a 4-ch amp, you simply wire each set in parallel. each amp channel would be driving both a speaker and tweeter. NOTE: when you wire speakers in parallel you cut their impedance in half. pay attention to the speaker/tweeter impedances and the amplifier's minimum impedance rating. most class AB amps are 2-ohm stereo stable, and most car speakers/tweeters are 4-ohms each; wiring them in parallel will present the amp with a 2-ohm load per channel (so in most cases you should be fine).

for your subwoofer; you can either buy a separate amplifier, or buy a 5-ch or 6-ch amplifier to power everything from a single amp.

    well well , I have
Infinity Reference 9613i 6"x9" 3-way as rear speakers
Infinity Kappa 63.7i 6-1/2" 3-way as front speakers in the front doors
2 tweeters in the front doors too.
2 Stock speakers in the back doors
2 tweeters in the back doors too.
JBL CS60.4 4 Ch 240 Watt Full Range Amplifier

Currently the back doors speakers and the 4 tweeters are disconnected.

I want to have surrounded system.

6 channels amps are rare and expensive and the HU has 4 RCA only

I just want to understand the correct way to connect such surrounded system as I don't see many people have 6 channels amp.

    I hope I could explain.

you can use that amp to power all 8 speakers (2 per channel) and buy a separate amp for your subwoofer as I explained in post#8..

...or you can wire them in series-parallel to amp channels 1&2 (which will present a 4-ohm load per channel), and use amp channels 3&4 to power your subwoofer. NOTE: if you wire it up this way, you will not be able to fade (front-rear).

an active crossover is externally powered, works at the pre-amp level, and generally results in better sound quality. the downside is that each crossover output requires it's own amplifier channel.

passive crossovers work at speaker-level, and sound quality may suffer a little (some power and frequency response may be lost through the filters).
