I just bought some subs and an amp last week and today was the day we put them into my 1997 honda civic lx.

The amp that I bought is a Kenwood KAC-X542, located:here.

And I also bought 2 10 inch Orion Subs, located: here.

Now we wired everything in, and went to hook it up to the subs. and there was no sound. So we hooked the amp up to an old sub we had lying around at my buddy's shop. It kicked hard... So once again we checked the wiring, and realized that the orions needed to be wired for 4 ohms.. and so we rewired them, and then tried them again. No luck. We tried several different configurations, the reset button on the amp, nothing seemed to work.

We then decided to hook it back up to the sub that was lying around.. and the sub did not work at all.. We tried wiring it to another channel and resetting configurations to what we first had.. and nothing worked.

Eventually after a few hours of frustration we came to the conclusion that the kenwood amp was busted.. mind you it was getting power from my battery.. it just wasn't providing any sound to the subs.

We then tried hooking up a very old 300 watt amp that was lying around.. and it worked.. That is what is powering my subs right now.. But I would like to get this kenwood amp in there asap.. only problem is, I got it at a store on their closing day.. so I can't return it there, and as for a manufacturers warranty, Id rather not wait a few months for them to fix it.. and my bill seems to have disappeared somewhere :S

Right now the subs are all wired right.. because they are working..

Is there any way I can test the amp? or is there anything you can think of that might be the cause of this problem..

Thanks for the help
