    Sub cutting out randomly

I got a 12" kicker sub with a xplod 800 watt amp. It seams that after a few min's of playing on a high volume the sub starts to cut out. But the strange thing is that it comes back on then cuts out again and continues like that. I know the amp has a protection mode but I took a look at it when it was cutting out and the protection mode light wasn't coming on. I checked all the wiring and the ground seams to be good. I dont think its overheating due to the light not coming on and that when I touch it, its not that hot.

Any explanations? Cause I have no idea whats going on here.

I had the same problem with an active sub, to me it sounds like it's tripping.
If the protect mode isn't coming on, on the amp, then it may be that the speaker has a trip connected to it. Check to see what power the sub is rated at compared with the amp. Obviously the amp should be lower.
Also if you have an high powered amp then you may need a cap to maintain the high current.

Other than that I don't know! Sorry.

I used to work for a car audio shop

I would recommend checking your ground (ensuring the paint is scraped at the connection location) Also make sure you are connecting your speaker at an appropriate OHM load, see web link below.
