Wired FM Modulator not broadcasting in stere

Hello folks, recently I installed a Scosche FM-MOD01 Modulator on my 2004 Kia Optima. The unit is working and there is virtually no static or noise in the signal. The only problem is 99.9% of the time the signal is in mono. Every once in a while it will pop into stereo for a a couple of seconds and then switch back. There are two frequencies that can selected on the unit and I have tried both of them; same result. Since there is so little interference on the signal, I have a hard time believing that the problem is interference from a station actually broadcasting on that frequency. I can't think of what the problem could possibly be other than that, though. If anyone has any thoughts, I would greatly appreciate some assistance.

if your radio receives stereo with no problems when listening to regular radio, then your modulator may be defective.
