I got a bit mixed up here, but it looks like a carPC (windows based?) can control the H701 with this controller? If so, I need to save some pennies and pick one of these up. I have always wanted this ability and think it is the number one best innovation to come from this forum in a long time.
I've had an idea rattling around -thought I would see if it's desirable or possible.
The typical use involves a PC to issue the RS232 commands your "wonder-box" will send on as AINET. All good!
I cannot help think it would be useful to use some of the PIC I/O to create 2 direct control inputs: volume up / volume down. Directly controlled by the PIC with no external device needed.
There will be times you may be using a non-PC sound source, and it would be great to get use of the solution when the car-PC is off. The volume control button/knob in this scenario is then a control that always works.
See - i've convinced myself! what do you think?
I intentionally kept 4 AtMega I/O lines (PC2-PC5) on the header for future expansion. It could be used for input (check for specified voltage below 5V or for the ground pull up) or output with small current (50mA max).
So yes, with small firmware tweaks those I/O lines could control the volume directly.
Just got my h701 today and installed it :heh::heh::heh: Just gotta say my excitement for carpc`s just picked wayyyyy back up!!! Ohhh man Optical out into the processor and then to the amps it so amazingly clean, I cant wait for this PC Interface, Please dont give up
It really does!! Considering the last many years fighting with nasty pops, ground loops and everything elese that comes with a computer direct to amps :flame:
Its to bad Mitch stopped making the xm direct optical conversion kits, with this usb control thats in the works for the alpine and a little plug in to switch between optical inputs from the front end would be perfect!!!
