Any chance you will be releasing source code for this and, if not, how will it interface? I'd love UART, because i'd like to build my own interface that works with a rotary encoder and gives feedback to the car-pc.

    Cheers, Marc
I'm not decided yet what to do with source code and schematics after completion. Just don't want to publish something unstable and buggy.
Controller is based on atmega32 and UART interface already implemented for I/O.

I have not been working much on this project lately due to some more pressing and serious problems.

I have now pretty much decoded the AiNet commands for the HU and CDC, and also for the Jaguar premium amplifier, which has a DSP section which I suspect is similar to the PXA-701,
(which is why the above post interested me) and various versions of the CDC emulator have been have been working quite well, I have also been able to control an Alpine CDC from a Jaguar HU, and also been able to attach an KCA-420i to the Jaguar system.

Hope to post some more soon.

    Cheers,
    Colin.
Wow, great to see your feedback. Thanks a lot for your PDFed AiNet guide. My research completely based on it.
My logs showing substantial traffic (about 10 packets per second) between H701 and Alpine HU, hovewer volume setting commands are pretty simple (there's one packet from HU and confirmation packet from H701).
Last night we almost compete the code for sending the packets, however there are still some HW changes needed to finally make it work.

The frequency of the packets between the HU and the H701 is very interesting.
The packets from the HU to CDC or KCA-420i are sent approx. every second.

I have not had a chance to work with the H701. Would you mind posting a sample packet from the HU and the responce from the H701, so I can compare it to those sent to the DSP in the amplifier.

Glad to hear you are close to sending packets, let us know how it goes.

    Cheers,

    Colin.

HU and H701 sending about 60 packets per second during initialization and about 10 packets per second during playback.
Here's a typical dump of initialization sequence beginning.

    Good news: we made it!
Last night all major bugs were fixed, we build first prototype board and now could successfully send the packets over AiNet to H701.
As of today we know how remotely change the volume and select any of 6 inputs (3 analogue, 3 optical). Controller could be connected to any PC via COM interface.
Great thing is that HU is not needed at all and RUX remais fully functional. Both volume and inputs could be changed either by RUX or by controller any given time.
Other remote operations (i.e. fader, EQ, presets) could be easily added later, just let me know what else you're looking for.
Hope to build final board really soon.

    Wow, great news.

    My suggestions:
It would be nice to be able to select the presets. About volume, it would be good to be able to change volume in 2 ways: with up-down commands and with absolute values.

    Thanks for the efforts.

Noted. Presets will be implemented, up-down volume is an easy task. Thinking about small PCB design with COM-port connector which could be easily intergated into H701 case.

I'll look also for sub. level and fader settings.

    Great, thanks.

One other thing that I think about now. For any command implemented, it would be good to have a pairing command for status. eg ask what's the current volume, preset, input setting, ...
It could also be 1 command for all, if it is possible at all.

Good idea. I'm not sure I can request status of current settings from H701, but settings could be stored in controller's memory after any changes and then returned on request. Hope that would be enough.
