What are some better component speakers?

Rainbow, DLS, Morel, CDT, Diamond Audio...all of those are a step up from Focal and around your price range.

So let me ask...... are Alpine component speakers any good? I was thinking of getting their R-Type Series which is 110 RMS. I was trying to stay Alpine because I am getting their PDX series Amps.

alpines are nice too. Not at the SQ of the others mentioned above... but alpine car audio has ALWAYS been rock solid in my book.

Thanx for verifying that..... I want something loud, but not so loud that I hear it 5 blocks away.

Personally if you're coming from Focal, I think you will be disappointed with Alpine.

I've always seen these brands on the forums... what are some their models I could be looking at?

Mines werent full components, but just midbass.

I have AA poly mids mid bass is out of this world one just crapped out on me for some reason, (coil looks fine, tinsels there, but no play I am the third one to own the speaker, had them for a total of 2 years too) theve been disco'd so youll have to buy used.

If you run Focals im not sure if youd like these but try mach5audio and get some MLI 6.5 40$ ea shipped I belive mid bass is crzy from what I hear.

I have MJM 18s and they hit 140 dbs @................... 30 hz with 900rms

best set of speakers i've ever heard. I believe those are the ones that member HiThere has in his acura.. unreal sound quality.

that's a great price for DLS ir's. Beware of fake DLS though, I have no idea if that's the case on that auction.

The focal's are very good, midbass is probably their weak point though. I don't think you'll be happy with Alpine TypeR or Infinity Kappa (although both can sound good)
My $0.02:
CDT HD62 w/M6 midbass, I have ef6cfi & HD6 in 2 diff vehicles, both have great midbass (and sound great all around) & the M6 is supposed to be stronger in the midbass. Don't be afraid to put some power to them, just make sure you're not clipping it. My 140Wrms ef6cfi comp set has seen 200Wrms for 3.5yrs & are still going strong. I'd take their max rec. power as a starting point IMO. Just make sure you know your amps limits & don't exceed that.

This also goes without saying, if you think you have enough deadening, add 1 more layer

covering as many holes in the door skin as possible will also make a big difference in midbass.

You know... I'm really interested in CDT. In all the speaker threads Ive checked out its always the one suggested most. But shooot.. they have doezens to choose from and I really dont even know where to begin? I know some of you have mentioned a few models... but what all should I be looking into for them?
