the only other option to interface with that deck will have to be a fm modulator
Hello all,
Just got a 2000 Buick Lesabre with an AC Delco cd cassette
deck that looks exactly like this:

I would like to add a line-in for my mp3 player. I tried a cassette adapter and it doesn't seem to work-maybe the tape deck is broken. I did a search and found quite a bit about an adapter that goes to the Delco decks that have a 9-pin port on the back, but I don't think this is the same deck from the pictures above. Anyone have any solutions for how I can do this? I'm wondering if theres a way I can solder wires right to the pickups inside the cassette hole somehow-
Any help appreciated
I did a search and found similar questions but
the only other option to interface with that deck will have to be a fm modulator
thanks for the input (haha). Thats what I was afraid of..
never used one of those that worked well ..
i'd switch the deck out but i don't really want to lose the steering wheel controls etc. and the thing actually has fairly good sound when playing an audio cd.
guess I'll have to suck it up and get a modulator... apparently iriver makes (or made) a decent one...
there are modules to adapt the audio controld to aftermarket radios, ofhand, I know crutchfield sells them..
If you selected another GM unit carefully, your steering wheel controls would still work.
I would suggest an aftermarket HU and a PAC-SWI to interface your steering wheel controls with the new radio.
The deck I have is actually this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-Bu...22149004r27880
From the pic of the back I think thats a 32 pin port? Nothing else useful for an input there is there?
To replace it,would any 32 pin GM deck work with the steering?
If I went aftermarket I do have a Clarion DXZ555MP sitting around that does everything I want..
If I use the PAC SWI-X (with the infared) I think it would work with this deck.
Not sure I want to get into all that w/this car though.
Thanks for all the help so far.
The tape deck does work (its one of those electronic-load type ones) maybe I just need a better tape adapter..
That is a steal deal for that stock deck. I sold mine (same model) for 110 bucks before shipping not much more than a year ago on ebay.
There's an old thread on this board about tapping into an OEM unit to get a line out. It's more of a DIY way of getting what you want. It'd involve some soldering onto the boards in you unit but worth it if you trying to keep it OEM for theft etc. I'm too lazy to search for you but look it up if you're interested.
I tried another tape adapter today and it would play for a few seconds then keep ejecting.. now the mechanism seems to be jammed and it wont play tapes at all. I'm thinking maybe I will install the Clarion. If the stock decks are worth that much maybe i can sell it on ebay to pay for the PAC SWI
Thanks everyone..
try the tape adapter the other way--- some adapters have a one way bearing in them, and that will cause the tape to eject, because it is fooling the radio into thinking that the tape is finished.
if you decide not to go this route, good luck with the sale!
