    e46 M3 audio issue...

Guys i removed my head-unit yesterday, hooked up the pc and everything is working except my audio is a little low.

This is my setup right now...

From Stock Metra harness to metra harness from best buy for aftermarket cd players. From that to sven4 from sven4 to PC's sound card. Sven4 is turned all the way up on those knobs and it goes from wired to rca output.

Any way to amplify this sound a little more... I mean it sound low and it's like there is no bass at all...

did I mess anything up or is this what i should have expected?

    Thank you very much.

are you using a factory amp or does the signal go straight to the speakers?

I'm using factory amp... I've done some searching and it looks like i may need some line drivers... Is that all I need to put it in line from laptop to sven4?

the sevn4 is only a line out converter, it converts high level (speaker level) to low level(rca level), but i cannot be sure if it converts it the other way--rca level to speaker level(i can't find anything for, or against this).

here is one of the most vague threads i was trying to read, that had a similar problem:
    http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/car-...ose-sven4.html.

you will first need to find out if the factory amp is expecting speaker level or rca level inputs (or someone with more E46 experience) but i am not completly convinced that you need the sven4.

if the amp is expecting speaker level voltage, it would be easiest to replace the amp with a aftermarket amp (otherwise you would end up adding a amp before the factory amp to boost the signal, and that is just too much redundancy, and is only going to add problems).

if the amp is expecting a rca level signal, than the line driver would be what you need.

but again, i have no idea what the sevn4, or the factory amp are doing, so you will ned to determine that first.

After searching and searching mainly about e46 it seems that everyone has put a line driver between pc and sven4. That helped... now my problem is getting one of those in town...

do you, or anyone else knows of any good line drivers that aren't too expensive? Does Best buy or any other store sell those locally? I assume i would need a 4 channel one.

    Thanks a lot.

best buy no longer has much more than aftermarket radio mounting kits...
there are a bunch of different products that should do what you need, some of these, you will need to order 2 of them though:

It doesn't make much sense to me to have a Sven4 and then buy another LOC to reverse the operation... The Sven4 will work both ways RCA to speaker and speaker to RCA.

If your BMW is like mine, the factory amp needs speaker lvl signal. Also, you are describing your sound route backwards. Start from the laptop and up.
Laptop is line, then Sven4 for line-to-speaker, then hook it up with your default harness via an adapter or soldering. Your factory amp would be now receiving the correct signal.

That is how it's connected... mini to rca, Sven4 to harness. harness to amp. It's just low... not as powerfull like with the headunit. That's all.

thanks for clearing that up (any info i could find was very vague on the sevn4-- and i couldn't be sure f the amp configuration)

boostin-- you could try placing a line driver before the sevn4 to see if it would help, but being that the factory amp is expecting a speaker level signal, you might be better off replacing it with a aftermarket amp that can better use a rca/line level signal. (after the cost of the sevn4 and the line drivers, you will probably end up being very near the cost of a different amp anyways)

Yeah, believe it or not, that's what i was thinking too... Everyone that removed the head unit in the e46 and did it like me, said they had to put line driver in, but then again it wasn't as good as with the head unit.

So i decided i'm just going to plug the head unit back in, relocate it to the glovebox and use the aux on it for the audio of the pc.

Last night i plugged the headunit in just to test it out and it sounded awsome.
I don't want to have all this extra stuff when relocating headunit will be easier.

    Thanks guys.
