    Please help me out here...

    Alright i've been observing this forum for a while and finally found a reason to post! Check it out, I have an 06 Chevy Silverado. I bought it from my grandfather and needless to say the stereo sucked... It was a simple am/fm radio fml. Anyways i have a pioneer i am ready to install and went for it today. I encountered some, well a huge problem. It seems as if my 12v switch wire doesn't work. When i put the 12v constant wire and the 12v switch wire both on the battery output wire it works as it should. The previous radio worked just fine as well. For the life of me, my father (electrician) and his brother (electrician) we could not figure out what was wrong with the ignition 12v wire and why it was not completing the circuit! Unless, we are way off base, and there is no 12v switched wire provided in the harness at all. In which case how do i tap into the fuse box and where do i run it through so my stereo doesn't stay on until i manually shut it off?

    The newer stereos use a data bus system instead of the ign wire. You can buy adapters (pac-audio.com) that can tap into the stock data bus system. Or you can find an alternative switching source like you mentioned at the fuse box, just get a volt meter and find out which fuse is energized when the ign is on. It might be easier to find a cig socket that turns on and off with the ign and you can tap into its power cable which should be closer to the radio.

    be careful using this method-- this will work for most cars, but chevy likes to integrate the radio with alot of other functions(have you noticed if your door chime and dome light still work with the new radio?), and so there is only 2 options for newer chevys-- either get the pac-audio adapter, or relocate the factory radio to a out of the way location, so that you can still keep all the functionality.

    I agree with soundman98. Most late model GMs use a data bus connector that makes the stereo an intergal part of the electrical system. Removing the stock stereo won't disable the vehicle, but you will loose warning chimes (ie seat belt, low fuel, door ajar, etc). Best thing to do would be to use a vehicle specific wiring harness that's data bus capable.

    Alright well good news and bad news. Good news is, the radio is working fine bad news is... chimes/auto headlights are not working. My dad's co-worker ran a fused line from the Center Instrument Panel Fuse Block's "special equipment option" 12v switch prong up to my radio and it is working fine. The thing that puzzles me is this. Last night with no radio in, all was well, and it seems as if as soon as i connected the radio everything sucks. When i flip the high beams on, the dash glow comes back and so do chimes. Also the parking lights still work as well. My question is, what the heck happened to the daytime running lights and why are all of these things failing?!

    update, daytime running lamps work, so does spedometer glow... The only thing not working is the door ajar/ seat belt chime... so what should i do?

    Like I said before, get the proper wiring harness. You can run the head unit without it, but it so much less frustrating if you just spend the $20-30 to get the harness.

    PM me if you want one, I may be willing to sell mine. I just removed mine and won't need it anymore (from a 07 Uplander, no OnStar). I was thinking of keeping it just in case, but I don't know when I'm going to have another GM vehicle.

    Thanks for the responses guys. If anything i just don't have the annoying chimes going off its a small consolation to pay for my new head unit .
