anyone that can answer that question needs to know model numbers, the rms ratings, and your budget. the more specific you can get (if you have a couple models in mind), the better. my budget for electronics and your budget are 2 different things (i am currently looking at amps in the +$750 category)

I found the sales reps at onlinecarstereo are very helpful in helping you pick what you need.

soundman98 is totally correct. a 1200w boss vs. a 1200w jl are two totally different animals..but take in consideration that 1200w is peak power not rms.. rms is the recommended speaker power. and provided that power .. you will get the most longevity,lower you wiill starve your subs.. I highly reccomend that you dont fall into the wattage ratings . wattage doesnt build a great sub. there are other variable like the correct enclosure. But by not knowing your subs or model.. i would reccomend at least 800w to be safe. Just look into something semi decent. Dont go brok but dont cheat yourself either.

good answer, and a quality sub with a max of 1200 watts should be around 600-800 rms, but cheap subs like to play the max game, and rate the max at 1200, but have a 100-250 watt rms-- which are 2 completly different amp categories/price points.

i would not recomend a 800 watt rms amp(possibly to high-- he might actually need something in the 300 watt rms range) until i see model numbers and/or rms ratings for the subs.
