no theyre the same wires. im talking about the wires that went from your stock radio to your amp. those wires, apparently, are regular high side speaker wires that are designed to go straight to speakers (probably for cars like yours without the infinity sound system option).

so, since they like to be cheap, they used those high side wires and brought them into the amp instead of making an amp that can use low-side RCA inputs.

i guess im not explaining it clear, its not really complicated its just that your stock radio wasnt designed to go into a regular amplifier, so they made your amplifier to accept regular speaker inputs (and they left out the low-side RCA inputs like every other amp on the planet has).

if you get a new amp, your computer ouput will go right into the amp with RCA cables.

if you get a radio, your computer inputs will go into the radio as low-side RCA's, and the radio mixes them properly and sends the audio to your amp as High-Side. you won't use the RCA outputs on the new radio, just use the RCA inputs -which are connected with the rca cables coming from your computer. the output of the radio is the speaker wires that would normally go to speakers, but again, they will go to your stock amp because thats the only option

yeah you do. use the RCA inputs only, you wont use the low-side outputs on the new radio. those low side rca's comig from your computer then get converted to speaker outputs by the radio. in your case, those speaker outputs can then be ran into your stock amp.

ok, so are you saying if i run the rca cables from my pc to the back of the new head unit that will work? what do you mean the outputs on the radio can be run to my stock amp? i thought i wouldnt need to do anything with that

i just mean the regular speaker wires on the new radio will be your amplifier inputs- exactly the same way your stock radio worked. the only difference is the new radio will have RCA inputs, which of course you need for your computer.

i know its confusing to read, with constant "in, out, high low dough c dough"

oh right sorry, the right wiring harness for the new stereo would be it. i was confused there. So either way I think im going to have the same amount of work cut out for me. my stock amp is rated at 360 watts. do you think i could get a bigger amp and maybe just turn down the power so my speakers won't blow. eventually i will upgrade my speakers, just can't afford it right now if i gotta get an amp or head unit

yeah you could do that. adding a radio in your case does sound like a bit of work since it would have to go in a new spot. a new amp would just be a couple screws.

HOWEVER... your stock amp is also a crossover. it splits a regular full audio signal to smaller cuts for whatever speaker needs it. in other words, the amp knows to just send tweety sounds to the tweets and bassy sounds to the subwoofer. if you upgraded your amp, you would have to add crossovers (more work more money ) OR, we find a 5-way amp that has crossovers built in.

thats why i originally asked if you could add a radio, because your stock amp is very well adapted to your stock speakers and would be nice to just leave all that alone.

so, i think we should start looking at 5-way crossover amps, and if we cannot find something for a good price/value then maybe consider the new radio idea again. it looks like a decent amp will run you around 250-$350. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...08ZX700.5.html but that kicker amp would be the last amp you probably ever buy.

yeah, i didnt think about the crossovers. i aleady have an amp for my sub, it works great. maybe i do just need to get a head unit then. sounds like that actually would be easier because really all i have to do is cut out my cig lighter and ashtray. there is a diy on that newtiburon website, it's actually pretty simple. i just need to find a head unit now. thanks for your help, i'll see if i have an old one laying around or maybe check ebay for now until i can get a nicer one.i'll let you know how it goes

ah, sorry. if you already have the sub amp then im sure you could find a good value 4 or 2ch amp... but i do think you would be happier with a headunit that adds a ton of flexibility to your system.

oh, one more question, do i run the sound from my pc card from the headphone jack or do i use the actual front and rear outputs? i ask this because i'm not familiar with how many rca inputs head units have.
