Just installed a car pc in my 2003 tib gt. i have the infinity sound system. I have an external sound card that has 3 sound outputs for front, rear and sub. I have the adapters to run from the card's stereo output to rca to speaker wire all hooked up and the sound works, i checked it with other speakers. My problem is i followed the wiring diagram from behind the stock stereo. The only way i get sound to all my car speakers is to run ONLY the positive speaker wires to the corresponding wire in the harness. I always thought you needed both pos and neg but when I hook up the neg wires it cuts out the sound immediately. Also, while I have the pos wires hooked up i get extra noise in my speakers. If someone can help me hook this up I will pay you. I would rather pay someone on here that may have experience rather than in my hometown audio store possibly not knowing what they are doing because it is a small shop. If no one can help me than can someone please let me know of a place around the chicago area that will definitely do the job without any problems. I'm tearing my hair out, I've had the pc half assed installed for about 4 months now and finally finished molding my screen into my center fascia. Looks awesome by the way. I'll post pics when I'm completely done. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a little more detail-- The card has 3 outputs. One for front speakers,one for rears and one for subwoofer. They are all stereo out puts that have been converted to bare speaker wire at the ends. So at the end of each output there is bare speaker wire for left and right speakers. This is what I am hooking up to my stock stereo harness. I have the stock infinity amp but there are no rca's or anything, just the wiring harness that goes into that also.

so, basically, the stock radio sends out regular speaker wires to the amp (meaning its a high-voltage input on the amp, not a line-level)? if this is the case, the problem is the output from your soundcard is PREamp level, not high drive like your stock radio is sending to the amp.
also, those outputs you have for front, rear and sub are stereo like you said- meaning there is 3 points of continuity for each one, not 2. it should be left+, right+, and grnd for each output.
Yeah there are 3 point of continuity for each one, yet when i hook up the neg part of the wire the sound cuts out.Also, if what youare saying is true about the output on the card being pre-amp then what should i do? I have been tearing my hair out trying to figure this out. Thank you for your help.

well youre all over the place right now, you gotta start somehwere and stay on one path.
so, first, does the amplifier itself have rca jacks on it for input? if so, just use proper adapters to go straight from the computer to the amp.
This may not be relevant, but did you connect the amp remote turn-on wire, pin 12 on the harness behind the radio in the dash, to a switched +12V source?
the amp does not have rca jacks. yeah i have the amp remote wire hooked to the amp. i didnt have sound at all until i did that. like i said, this is really weird, when i hook just the positives wires up i get sound out of my speakers, but as soon as i touch the negative wires to their respectives places it cuts the sound out. i have no idea why it would do that.

the positives normally do work a little when you just have those hooked, because its using the ground inside the amp to backfeed what its missing. its not a good thing though, dont leave it like that.
you still need to find out if the wires coming out of your radio, that go to your amplifier, are high or low voltage. high would mean you can just hook up a speaker and it would work- those wires are amplified. low would mean they are just signal wires, and you could put headphones on them if you wanted to (which is the reason you have headphone jacks on your computer, they are low voltage lines and are not made to hook up to speakers, unless you get the kind of speakers that you need to plug into the wall for power).
my guess is the amplifier uses high-side inputs only, and you are trying to feed it the low-side the computer provides. if thats the case, you could probably modify a basic set of pc speakers to go into the amp, but then youre adding a lot of extra crap. you really need an amp or radio with low-side inputs, there isnt much around it.
also, you dont by chance have an mp3 player input on your stock infinity radio system do you?
Ok, so could i just buy another amp and replace my stock infinity amp with that then? I don't mind spending more money on something that's going to work!

honestly if you could upgrade your radio i think that would be a better route. you would get better sound then your factory radio, and the amplifier you have is matched to your speakers so its nice to just leave that alone. even a $140 pioneer cd headunit would sound excellent, you dont have to go crazy there as your pc really provides the sound. the new radio will be just that, am/fm cd radio with rca inputs. just get a good name brand and you should be fine.Originally Posted by armysgt
