    PCI DAB+ card

Just to give another heads up, Anyware in Australia are now stocking the Mygica T188 card, which is a PCI DVB-T & DAB+ & FM radio card.

Not bad, my wholesale price on it is AUD$29.98.

It even has 75ohm input, which is exactly the same rating as my car antenna....

Does anyone know if you can get a motorola connector to TV style coax adapter cable?

I'm going to pick up one of these cards, and will be interested what its like for DAB+, but I would like to be able to plug it straight into my car antenna for reception.

DVB-T reception I'm not worried about, so that will be secondary....

    Further to this....

It seems a lot of these kinds of input cards support windows media centre out of the box.

Does this mean that there is a standard API for accessing TV/DVB/DAB units that Centrafuse or RR could hook in to?

If we can use the same API as Windows Media Centre, wouldn't that make it easier, as we would then have hooks in out of the box for Windows Vista and 7 onwards?

Or am I jumping the gun?

big jump...they all would be BDA Drivers, which for radio are boring..
    and usless...

only if they have a seperate radio api, which would be used in a stand alone app they provide, and they would NOT make the api public
    -Thanks

So pretty much, you would need some form of SDK from the manufacturer before you could do anything with it?

yep... see if they even have a radio app, if they do, and it has real information... besides the tuned freq... ie rds, or in dab mode, metadata...

Just an update, I got a confirmation back from Mygica that they have a Windows only SDK.

Just waiting to see if I can get a copy, if anyone is interested in having a look at this, let me know.

Hell, if we can get a 30 buck DAB+ and FM radio card, then we are in for some fun!!!

Another update on this guys, I have been speaking to Judy from Mygica, and they are willing to send me a copy of the SDK, as long as we publish the entire SDK and also their company information on the website.

As soon as I get it from Mygica, I'll get it uploaded and available

Mitch, are you able to have a look through the SDK and give some feedback on whether it will work for what we want?

I got my T-188 from my wholesaler today, and it looks to be basically a PCI USB host, with the DVB-T and DAB+ hardware hanging off the USB host (It uses a VIA VT6212L USB host controller for it by the looks of things).

This is looking promising guys! If this fits the bill, we are looking at a PCI DAB+ radio that costs what, 1/3 the price of the other units out there? It would also possibly drop some of the inducted noise issues, as there are no low level analogue audio lines running through the car.

a quick review of sdk, doesnt look promising.. i see NO DAB or RDS meta data
    some other thoughts

    1. not made for automotive use, IE moving car
    2. limited Data, more might be there, just not documented as far as i can see

also.. what software comes with it, a DAB radio player?
    -Thanks

It comes with Arcsoft TotalMedia on the CD, and the SDK comes with an FM program, and a DAB/DAB+ program.

Inside the DABPlus_Install_20090901.rar file is an install of the Realtek GoGa Player, which has the demo programs, one for FM Radio and one for DAB Radio.

I ran those up last night, and the little programs that come with the SDK work perfectly for picking up the signal and tuning the unit in. I had some issues getting the DAB program to play the streams, as it couldnt find the AAC codec, but it picked up all of the information correctly.

I also tried the Arcsoft player, and that would tune in the stations, and also play the music, as it had the right codec to play the he-AAC v2 that the card outputs when running in DAB+ mode.

The reception on it was coming in at 50-60%, just using the little portable aerial that comes with the card, which was pretty impressive, im in an area that isnt really high reception.

    <Link Removed>

There is full source code for the demo player inside one of the directories (Under the AP_Source_code directory, the rar file called DABPlayer_BP_for_release_20090901.rar).

I will try and get this installed into my car as well, and go for a drive with the player software running, see how it handles a mobile environment, see what kind of issues we get from it.
