Thread: How can I repair my cracked mtx 12" Subwoofer?

it might not hurt to use it, as i believe that sub uses a polypropylene cone, so it will jsut flex more..

but i really wouldn't recommend using it, and there really isn't any good way to repair it other then having it re-coned, though being that it is a square sub, i doubt that anyone would do it-- might need to talk to mtx to see if they can do anything for you..

i really doubt that you will be able to find anyone that is willing, or able to recone it because mtx, pyle, and kicker are the only companies using square coned subs-- they have never caught on anywhere else due to the poor sq, and technical problems caused by the odd excursion of the odd-shaped cone..(the pyle version can barely use any of its travel because they didn't add any extra surround around the larger diameter areas) they are great for spl, and for being different, but after looking at all the square offerings, i don't think they are worth anything(kickers L5&L7 models hit the cleanest, but while they are loud, they still sound like crap..)

anyways, parts-express.com offers a reconing service, but your model is not listed there..

i checked the cost using a mtx blue thunder 12" just for example though-- and it looks like it comes out to $63/per sub, not including shipping(not sure how heavy those subs are, but shipping could cost extra)

i would just buy a new one. ease of mind

If it's just on the cone, perhaps JB Weld would work?

maybe some jb weld, but you know what happens to a pop can after you flex it too much-- i imagine the same thing will happen to the sub after a while..
