Any ideas why this amp would consistently cut itself off when getting above 40-50% volume level from the PC?
It clips and at the same time the red LED comes on. If the volume gets loud enough (~50-60%) then the red LED lights and the amp has no output until I power cycle it. I tried it in my new pico install, and when having problems, I took it out and connected to the headphone jack of a laptop with the same problems.
I was wanting to go this route to keep most everything in the dash and removing my amp under my seat. Anyone else use this amp and have similar problems, or know what I may be doing wrong?
I may have isolated the cause, but leads me to another problem I guess. It seems that if the line voltage drops too low, it stops output. Somewhere around 11.85V. As I raise volume, line voltage at the amp lowers.
What is odd though is that PSUmoni shows line 1 at 12.1V, my meter reads 11.75 at the amp. I trust my meter much more. I have the setup powered through the P2140.

are your speakers good? check the Ohm's on the speakers it should be around 4 for aftermarket and sometimes 2 for factory
are you trying to power it off the computer power? try hooking it to the car 12v, this thing seems to be power hungry. i had mine hooked to the cig plug it my car and kept tripping the check engine light. after hooking to the car thought a relay to the battery it didn't have any problems.
Its going to be the speaker most amps have a red light which means protect mode . If its a 4 channel speaker disconnect all speakers then add one by one and crank the volume if it turns off and goes into protect mode (red led on) then thats ur bad speaker , have u solved the issue btw havent heard any news ?
EDIT: forgot to check what amp ur using but u should look into an alpine 445u amp its small and has plenty of power and has adjustable gains with frequency adjustment . It also has a 2 channel design which if u are hooking up only 1 rca it will play through all 4 speakers
