first off: Xp or W7?
So I had the Creative SoundBlaster XFi installed and working when I first got my carPC up and running in my car. However recently my computer-tech friend who was helping with the install said there was problems with various drivers and such in general on the carPC due to the install process, so she formatted the whole computer to start it from scratch her way.
Unfortunately shes no longer able to complete reinstalling everything due to reasons beyond my control, and I'm stuck trying to figure everything out myself; and I'm no computer-tech.
I tried reinstalling the XFi today. I popped in the installation CD hoping for the best. Everything installed correctly and the soundcard is plugged into the amp/computer correctly. I can hear some static from the speakers, but there is no actual sound coming from them. The soundcard doesn't light up like it did before. I'm pretty sure I have to select it from the Device Manager menu, but it doesn't pop up as an option to select.
This is as far as my computer knowledge will take me (which isint very far I know lol). Can anyone point me in the right direction? Just need to get the sound working!

Windows 7. Lemme guess, the drivers on the CD arent compatible? I'll go download new drivers and see if that works..
Have a look here while you are at it. Maybe there is something there that will help you:
Thanks! I'm sure with that link I'll be able to get it working..!

Nope didnt work
I tried installing 2 different drivers from the Creative support site (thinking the first one wasnt the correct one), both said that there wasnt detecting any supporting hardware. Almost looks like the soundcard is dead (I hope not)? Can anyone give me any insight?
when you plug the x-fi into the pc what sound does it make Ba-Ding!(good), or Ba-Ba..(bad-device not recognized)
I've tried researching a bit online, various different Windows 7 forums. A lot of people say to select the Windows Vista compatibility mode of the drivers prior to installation, but thats not working for me either.
Do you have another pc you can try it on just to see if it gets picked up? You woultn't need to install the software, just to verify that it is alive.
