Thread: Would I benefit from new speakers?

for something quick, the $50 jvc's should do the job fine. after a brief search, the energy audio stuff seems to be from the same manufacturer as the energy home theater stuff-- which get great reviews. i have heard a couple sets of those, and while i am not a huge fan of the hard dome tweeters, the sound is still amazing.

so the extra $50 for the energy coaxials would be well-spent..

But if your speakers sounded fine before the CarPC, and you don't do anything in the way of a processor, or at least an EQ within the CarPC, the new speakers will likely sound just as bad as the old ones.

As you can see, there are a lot of details and thought to put in prior to jumping in. At least you've figured out one of the most important: that you favor SQ of SPL, so do a little research based on the recommendations you've received, and make an educated decision.

New speakers are often better than old if the olds have crazed or stiffened cones etc.

And standard speakers are often easily improved... My mate replaced his VX Commodore door speaker (which weren't bad) with $28 Audio...-something real cheap speakers. The improvement was so good we went back. I bought a pair to replace my ~$160 Sonys or Pioneers or whatever, and he bought 6x9s of the same brand for $35 and fitted to the rear parcel shelf. He now rocks (I still thrash & slam.)


Hearing is good but not always possible. Besides, in the final enclosure etc the sound can totally change... (for better or worse).

This is why I'm using a gift card someone gave me to get something almost for free. If there's no improvement, no harm done. One day when I want to put the effort into it, I'll get another good system like the Rockford one I had back in the day.

So, what did you decide on?

Haven't had time to get to Futureshop yet but I'm going to go pick up some $80 brand name whatever they have. I got the doors off doing other modifications and I'd like to take care of that before putting everything back together for good. Or until I do any huge upgrade.
