Standard Bose system with new external amp question...

I have an '05 Yukon that has the standard Bose system (not the cool premium one). The original head unit ran to the Bose amp, and from there, the speakers. I've since ditched the factory HU for one that I now loathe, which is why the prospect of building my own sounds so appealing. I have a harness that ran to RCA's for my aftermarket HU, so I initially thought that I might be able to just use the Bose amp for my low signal amplification, but when I plugged in an mp3 player directly to those RCA's, I got nothing. So that leads me to believe that I still need amplification to the Bose amp.

I'm leaning more towards a smaller internal amplifier (I won't be driving this car for more than a couple years from now and will wait to drop the big bucks for a better amp when that transition happens). Amps like those (the Amp6 from 41hz for example) output to the analog wires to connect directly to speakers, but I have an RCA running to the Bose amp. SO, (try not to scold me if I'm completely wrong) would using a line output converter from the Amp6, to the RCA's which connect to the factory amp be a feasible solution, or am I missing it completely?

Sorry that's so long and convoluted, but it's been a difficult question to answer by searching this whole time, and would love some of the expertise I've found on this site.

    Thanks guys.

Shoot guys I've replied twice so far and every time it says the mods have to approve it, which is cool, but it's been a few days now and I've tried twice, still nothing...

I'd really like to take you up on your guys help though. If this one goes through then I'll post my more info

If you can, you can go ahead and reply in the thread. Hopefully I can figure why none of my attempts to reply have worked soon, so we can work together on this. Again I truly appreciate your time.
it looks like it explained a lot!!

those rca's are low level audio--- so any mp3 player should work.

what you might have missed was the remote turn-on.

at 1:27 in your video, there is a blue wire about in the lower-middle of the camera view-- assuming this is the correct wire, this is the wire that tells the amp to turn on. it usually does this by turning the amp on whenever there is a +12v applied, and turning the amp off when the wire reads 0v. if the amp wire was connected to the aftermarket hu, the wire coming out of the hu should be blue with a white stripe, or solid blue.

a easy way to test this without too much reworking is to plug those rca cables into your mp3 player while the car, and radio are on.

if you get a audio signal, the next step would be to disconnect that wire-- it should turn the amp off.. if it does great! if it doesn't there is something else going on.

if this all works out, all you will need to do is connect that remote wire to the ignition wire, so the amp turns on whenever the car is on, and your done..

This is fantastic soundman, thank you. I'll will definitely try connecting my iPhone with the radio turned on, which is something I didn't think about until you mentioned that remote start wire. Because my radio turns on when it's detachable faceplate is connected, it wasn't attached therefore my amp probably wasn't on. Duh. Haha I'll return with results. Hopefully you saved me money in another amp! Thanks again!

Sure enough, with the headunit on and everything plugged in with my iPhone plugged directly into the harness and it played beautifully. It sounded way better than the crappy headunit's audio too haha. Thank you so much for clearing up that obvious thing I overlooked, and saving me from unnecessarily buying another amp. My next step would be to attach that wire to my ignition (there's no designated accessory wire in my car, kinda lame). And possibly use that wire for both my amp and something similar to trigger my power supply if possible... that'd be really nice. I'll have to do some more research on that.
