    Low Profile Car Subwoofers

    I was wondering if i could get some help with choosing some low profile subwoofers for my truck, i only have like a 5in mounting depth some im looking for somthing pretty thin. Ive looked at some kicker CVT low profile subs and some Pioneer Premier low profile subs. And also some rocksford fosgates punch. Im either going to get 2 10's or 2 12's. They are going underneath the seat of my truck. If you guys could give me some suggestions or anything like that i would appreciate it.

    Two things to pay attention to with shallow subs, do they still require a standard box size (and do you care), and excursion. Most are only good for midbass duty because they don't ahve the excursion to pull off low frequencies well. For example, that kicker has 4.3mm of excursion...terrible for a subwoofer, somewhat ok for midbass. In the shallow categories only a few stand out. Earthquake SWS, MTX Thin, Stereo Integrity, re audio and on the high end scale alpine,JL. Anything ~12mm+ should be ok to amazing for a shallow sub, but it all depends if you are a basshead or not and desired output level. Winisd pro and unibox are good for modeling subwoofers.

    Low Profile Subwoofers for truck

    Im trying to decide on what low profile sub i can get, i have a 5in mounting depth available but i am new at this and i cant decide on the best low profile sub. Im looking for somthing that is very powerful and can shake my rear window. I have looked at many brands like kicker, pioneer, rocksford fosgate, mtx, and earthquake. I cant seem to make my mind up because there is so many differnt reviews. So hopefully you guys could help me out.

    Shallow subs are not going to have the same stroke as the deeper monsters some people seem to like. I suggest you take the woofer specs and put them into a box modeling program like WINISD pro. You can even model SPL graphs of different subs at the same time to figure out which one will be louder. There are tutorials on how to use this program if you look around. Once you learn how to use it, you will realize this stuff is not too complicated and your decision will be easier and you won't have to worry about varying opinions.

    Ok thanks, so what sub would you prefer? Cause im looking for some that will put out as much bass as possible, and try and sound close to a regular sub

    I mean im not looking to spend alot of money so im just trying to get the loudest sub for a good price

    I have no issues with the Earthquake SWS I use in a bandpass and the MTX seemed well build. Rockford fosgate seems to dress their subs up by making the magnet look bigger than it really is. Other than that, not much else I can say. I like a balanced system and not really looking at shaking my car apart, actually the less my car vibrates the better.I'm irritated that rearview mirror shakes making it's own noise, does that count?

    I'm pretty happy with my Pioneer - competed thrice/trophied twice. But box volume plays a huge role.

    definitely listen before buying.

    pioneer slim subs bother me-- they are just way too boomy for me.. and i have found that many slim subs seem to have this problem..

    see? three opinions, and none of them really line up perfectly...

    Yeah sorry about that, the system acts goofy for me when I merged the thread it closed it.

    Honestly, listening to subwoofers won't tell you a whole lot. As mentioned by Gizmo, the box is going to be key but so is excursion and desired output. At most stores if they have a display, the subwoofers might be installed in non-optimal enclosures and you are listening to a tiny sliver of the audio spectrum. You can listen to them but keep that in mind, if it doesn't meet your goals return it/sell it and get something else. But I would model it before buying because sometimes the differences will be obvious.

    If you model the shallow pioneer you will see why it sounds "boomy" or "peaky". QTS is high, FS is high, and xmax is only 6.6mm for the 10", 10.8. for the 12". In my opinion, the pioneer is better suited as a midbass driver. It doesn't have the gusto to get down low. Cabin gain will boost the low end, but will not be enough for some people.
