Help please. SD card playback severe distortion/interference.

    Hi all.

Im a lightweight in terms of "ICE" but I have been enjoying use of a relatively cheap "Xtrons" unit, which I know is probably a rubbish make, but it has been fine the last year, however lately when using the SD card function its got some shocking distortion in the sound, sounds a bit like bubbling or rubbing over the music. Now during the gaps between tracks this is not heard, and nor is it heard when using the unit to play DVD CD or RADIO, so im assured its not my speakers. I have changed SD cards but it persists, and played the cards back on other units so i know it is something to do with the SD reader, can anyone offer any advice? Thankyou.

Could possibly be that the music's audio bit rate sampling on the sd card is either too high or too low for that unit . Check the audio bit rates on the music your loading and adjust if needed. Have you tried the same music but in a different audio codec/ format?
eg. wma then in mp3 or what ever suitable codec. See if there is any change between the 2?

yeah I figured it is probablythe cheap unit but worth an ask. Its defo not the card or the music files/format etc as there is music on the card that played with no problem before, and now the same tracks have the distortion. i can email the sound if you want to hear it? its recorded on my iphone as a voice note im not sure how to upload.

I was wondering if it would be static build up in the reader slot, or something to do with the wiring?

Think you and Soundman are right. Cheap unit filled with flaws.Just stumbled on Xtron,s site forum. Another guy with the exact same issues had numerous email exchanges with Xtron. After trying everything with no success. Xtron finaly admitted that their units were faulty and offered him a full refund. He insisted that he would rather they send him a replacement unit but they refused. Guess Xtron know they will only be getting it back soon anyway. Here,s the link to the forum post

Yeah, Pioneer,Sony and even Panasonic offer great sound for a reasonable price and last for years. I found that you have to spend good money if you want good sound from Alpine/Clarion as their cheaper low end models are rubbish. Thats just my opinion with my experience. Others may say otherwise. But sticking with a well known brand is a your best bet. Single-din or double depends on you and what your vehicle can take. Double din units do offer more.
