Thread: Which line driver

i've always liked audio control--they are bigger then most units, but i haven't heard bad things about them..

personally, i used to use a pheonix gold 3 ch version, right up until i blew it up "trouble shooting"...

for the time i had it, i liked it-- it worked great, it just didn't outlast my tinkering fingers(on second thought, it might have been a hu issue--i'll need to re-test mine..).

I had read other threads where you were discussing the pheonix. Problem is I don't think the stuff is made anymore. That ebay link doesn't seem to work, could be me. Rockford Fosgate makes one that would probably work but it is like $77. Seems a little pricey considering my Boston Acoustics subwoofer amp was $129.

no, they don't make them anymore.

most of the name brand units are right around $100. it looks like the jl audio cl-rlc is $65, but that has the volume control that you don't need(and it needs to be plugged in to work)

I was eyeballing that unit. I probably will go for it. First I'm going to look into using my sound card for "5.1." Right now I'm using the front channels to feed 3 sets of RCA's which compounds this issue. I have no interest in 5.1 in it's true form but perhaps a good path to visit? Of course if I do that, I would need 3 of those or a different type of unit. Bah!

i haven't been convinced that physical 5.1 is worth going after-- kind of a shame considering one of the motivations behind buying my current car was because it came factory with a center channel...

it's mostly that i want automatic upmixing to 5.1 and 5.1 pass through capabilities--ATM, i would need to maintain 2 different audio programs, and manually switch them to get everything to work the way it should, and that is just too much hassle..

Good point... I only want 4.1. I actually have 7 speaker factory system plus an 8" sub I added. It has a center channel but the rear speakers are 2 little 3.5" between the two seats. On top of that, there is only 4 channel from the radio to the amp, it decides what goes to the center and rear on its own. Thanks Bose.

The only real reason would be to separate the sub from the rest. Come to think of it it, I already have a sub volume knob installed... I'm going to leave well enough alone.
