    Well I had heard from many a source that the dist. block was safe to use, and nad i have been using it for my subwoofer amp for 5 months now with no problems with the elc system......which i had an installer do. Have you had personal exp with friends or something that had problems? If so i would like to hear about it. What if i used a capacitor in the trunk, would that help? I guess i could re-run 8 guage wire from the battery again, but is there a hole in the firewall? Anyway, please post back with more specifics - i would love to hear them.

    ive wired a few bose systems up in audis before, ive used a sound adapter to lower the levels of the inputs to the speakers and using an aftermarket amp and that has worked well, also i have directly used the bose amplifer inputing low level to it and that has also worked. the best way still is just to change out the speakers and use an aftermarket amp.

    whats your take on the dist block thing? You think its unsafe or unwise to wire power from there?

    You can send your main power line through a grommet in the ECU box (which I did with no problems whatsoever) or the grommet that the hood release cable passes through. Anyone who has had to drill through the firewall in an S4 or an A4 has not done enough research into alternate possibilities.

    uh - that's absolute bull****... sorry. Two posts on that dist block ARE direct connections to the battery. The only one that isnt is the x75 post - which is switched power.

    The dist block under the knee bolster has 3 main bolts. One is the 75x bolt - thats switched power, only on when the ignition is on or the key is in accessory position. The other two are constant power direct to the battery.

    I have wired several things (remote lead, eq, boostgauge, auto dim rearview mirror) to the 75x post with no problems. Just make sure you fuse any line that you add to it, just for safety.

    I would not run a a series of amplifiers off of it though. Better to do the traditional setup with 4-8ga wire from the battery so you have the added mainline fuse and an appropriate size gauge wire.

    i prefer wiring it directly to the battery if possible, the audi isnt that bad if you run the power thru the ecu box and out that gromet. Ive ran the power into the hood cable gromet, but the ecu gromet is 100x easier to do and cleaner since its closer to the battery. If you use the fues block terminals just be sure you correctly fuse whatever you hook to it, and make sure its not going to draw more than it can be rated to.

    thanks for the info brrrman and infinkc - i have one amplifier (pulling 400-500 watts) off the bottom post on the dist block. But now i am going to put a computer in the trunk too (max 100 watts rated @ 60% efficient, so figure around 150 more watts). Im thinking of running wire from the battery - when you guys say "thru the ecu box" do you mean open the box up? arent those bolts the kind that self destruct when you open up the box? Anyway, thanks for the info.
