    Replacements and upgrades.

So now that I got my old alpine HU ripped off, I'm looking for a new one. I'm looking for something that can Play MP3 CD's and it also must have an AUX input for my computer (of course) Can I get this for $250? I looked through Alpines websites but everything I found interesting was well out of my price range

If anyone has suggestions for what new HU to get, It would be welcome.

I know that when I had my old HU installed, they needed to install a converter because my amp and speakers are made by Bose. I don't think that was stolen, (though I have no idea where it would be so I cant check).

Is this something I could install myself? It seems like the only hard part is mounting the unit in the DIN slot.

there's a sony cdx-5700 with aux inputs running for 200 bucks(circuit city, best buy). I had to get one for the same reason as you. when you have to buy something that you hadn't budgeted for you have to get what you can. anyways this unit is very capable and produces good sound.

    Try WalMart for inexpensive headunits.

I would sooner rip my left nut off with a pair of rusty pliers then buy anything from Walmart. They are the scum of the earth, and I know of one person who had his engine destroyed by getting an oil change there (they didn't put the drain plug back in, then claimed that it was a non standard drainplug and wasn't their fault).

No, Walmart and their illegal immigrant workforce will never get any of my money ever.

Looking at that HU, it has less then half the wattage of my own alpine (23Wx4 as opposed to the alpines 50Wx4) . Can I really get good sound from that? I've never really learned a hell of a lot about stereo equipment.

The 50Wx4 is the peak rating whereas the 23Wx4 is RMS. They will be right about the same. Most HU are rated 50x4 peak and then rated anywhere from 21 to 25X4 RMS.

Well you have an amp and that's where the power will come from since the speakers will not be connected to the head unit.

I used to have that deck before I wanted the bragging rights of not having a head unit. Its a great deck. I recommend it.
