Thread: For all that said Surround Sound is a waste

antimatter can you tell me what more does your Panasonic CYAC300-EX gives you over an $140 Creative DDTS-100 ? I know the DDTS-100 is a little hard to use it in car (due to the bizzare power input) but it can be done (check my last post here ) . I'm using the DDTS-100 and is doing the job perfectly (at least for me). Is there something else the Panasonic processor is giving you that worth the extra money? Please enlighten me I'm very interested in your opinion.

I would just like to post up and disagree with having movies in the car at all, at least while moving, although I'm of the mindset that they don't belong in the car at all.

Sure, it's cool, but man, what a distraction! Even if it's only playing for the passenger(s), I find myself trying to follow the storyline through the soundtrack. Eek!

I do a ton of traveling every weekend i drive from orlando to sarasota then to tampa and back to orlando, mostly at night...so this is what i found....before i had movies or video in the car I would get very drowsy when driving many hours, (radio was boring, and we are all used to the standard radio)..and sometimes would actually pull over and sleep for a half hour before continuing on. once I had the capabilities to view video, I found that it is in fact distracting, but I also found that I was not tired...it kept me alert. To me falling asleep at the wheel is far more dangerous then being distracted, at least you are awake to compensate for not paying attention....

Conclusion: Neither senerio is Ideal....but one is less dangerous than the other....everyone is capable of falling asleep at the wheel...only some are capable of being distracted long enough to get in an accident.

Well audio quality is a factor but I don't know. I haven't heard the Panasonic
I'm very satisfied with the unit's performance and I believe it is a real value for money deal.

I think its awesome that you've added surround to your car, there are so many things you can do to make it better than a theatre. because your using DSP you can adjust it using those stage features you were talking about.

I mean, this is the whole reason why computers in vehicles are inevitable. They are completely customizable, and options and ideas new technologies are never ending.

I think a sweet option, would be to get your PC to recognize how many poeple are in the car and taylor the sound to the specific passenger/driver seating arrangements.

Furthermore, an option in which I am implementing into my vehicle software currently, is using GPS or OBDII get the vehicles speed and adjust the audio volume so its always constant. (just like in luxury cars.)
