2 DINs in a Double DIN

Does anyone know if it is physically possible to mount two DINs on top of eachother in a double DIN? I

but I have to admit that I'm not really sure as to what I'm looking for.

I think I'd like to use a Lilly In-Dash and put a new DIN HU in under it. I wonder if it would fit or if I'd be modding my brains off.

Yes. I think so. Search the dimensions of the size of a 1 din or 2 din on this forum. I remeber seeing measurments somwhere

Yes it's possible. I used to have both a indash monitor and Hu before my whole carputer thing took over. You have to get some brackets(from a local car audio install shop) that will allow you to mount them on top of each other. To clarify, one bracket for each side should allow for screws to go into both units. Then once the brackets are screwed into the two units then these same brackets should allow you to screw into the orginal mounting position.

it depends on the car. my ford didn't like to have to squeeze them in there, some GMC's double dins are actually 1.75 dins...don't ask why.

I had no problems replacing my stock double DIN headunit with an single DIN in-dash housing from Armen and a single DIN headunit. But like others have said, measure the actual size of the opening in your car to see if you actually have a double DIN space. 4" is the right height for a double DIN.

So I emailed Crutchfield and asked. They told me it's not a double DIN, it's actually a little bigger. I suppose that's good news as it gives me more room to play before I have to start hacking.

Where does one get an adapter kit for such a thing... after searching I guess the correct question is, where can I have a good one made?

Don't know what you mean by adapter kit, but if you're talking about something that will allow both units to be entered into the double din securely re-read my post above.
