Should my DVDs play so quiet?

Hi All,

When playing MP3's through my audigy 2 upmixed to 5.1 the music is LOUD, when I play DVDs with the same volume setting using power DVD (currently) the volume is about 50% down.

I have tried a couple of DVD software apps and multiple DVDs all give the same result, is this the same for everybody else? or do I need to configure something in software to realise the same volumes as my MP3's

I had this problem also when using Mediacar (dont' remember if it's syptomatic of other frontends too)... I used the mixer to lower the preamp output of winamp (for mp3's) so that you can just up the input sensitivity of your amp or raise the master volume on the radio (if using an aux input on a headunit). Now I have equal volume on DVD's and MP3's but still have LOUD mpg videos...

never thought of that...hmm pretty cool.

would also get round the problem of those mp3's that are quiet and need a little extra boost, just turn up the mixer in winamp....hmmm very cool

fyi, it's not a software error or a hardware error. DVD's are supposed to be like that. With music, typically everything is loud. With movies, there needs to be more of a range.

I know that's a bad explaination, but it's hard for me to explain.

I had started to consider this as an option as well as I have now played a lot of DVDs and they cant ALL be quiet.

Still I like the suggestion above as it fixes my immediate problem and other problems as well i.e. quiet MP3s, very low tech, very workable.

How did you up mix it to 5.1? Ive got Audigy 2
