Okay, I just tried grounding the Amp to the chassis, and the "thumping" noise went away, but there is still alot of hissing and faint whining in the speakers.
Any help?![]()
I've got a setup with an M10000, Lilliput 7" 16:9 TS, ITPS + 55W PSU, and a 200W Amp.
I have serious problems concerning noise.
When I boot up the PC, there are several repeating "thumping" noises, and a high pitched whine. I can also hear the Harddrive booting up through the speakers!
After searching the forums, I thought it might be USB-noise filtered through the onboard soundcard, but I removed -all- connections except for the RCA, and the noise persists.
After some more searching, I thought it might be grounding of the components, but even after grounding the PC and lilliput to the same spot, the noise was the same.
The weird thing about this is, currently the amp and pc is connected to the same power circuit, but when I connect the amp to an external PSU(AT-psu from an older pc) connected to my house's power, the noise is gone!
This is obviously not a lasting solution, as I want to be able to drive the car around with the CarPC in it
Any ideas?
PS: Oh, I thought about buying an USB SoundCard, but as it appears that the problem isn't usb-filtered noise, I figured it wouldn't help much.
PS PS: I also tried using my Audigy 2 from my own PC, but alas to no effect. The noise is still the same.
Getting kinda desperate here![]()

have you tried disconnecting the vga cable?

As I said, I have even disconnected everything from the pc except for the RCA to the soundcard and the powercable to the ITPS.Originally Posted by Nic
I had a major prob with noise.. still have a tiny hiss at the mo. I too have a M10000 MB, going to a 800w Kenwood 5 channel amp. It was really bad.. whinning.. thumping. hissing .. crackling.. infact just one big noise. I then bought a £30 EXTERNAL usb soundcard just to test it as I had tried most of the stuff you mentioned (except for grounding the outside of the amp) and bingo.. only a slight hiss now, I think thats because its not a decent usb EXTERNAL box.. but when sound is on you cant hear it and very livable. Only thing is.. that noise is there until the pc boots and the external soundcard because live.. still working on it, but the rain doesnt help much.. cant open my boot to work on it.
hope this helps

You said you search... i think thats BS Dam, engine noise
I read that thread, and there are several differences between my problems and his:
He says that the problem isn't there when his car is -off-, but mine is there even if the motor isn't running.
He is using an inverter, something which produces alot of interference, i'm using a dc-dc converter(ITPS).
Since you obviously think I'm a lame-*** whiner who doesn't know how to use "tha intarnet", could you tell me how ANY answers in that thread answer my questions?
ok i just read your whole thread you have a Amp connected to your PSU? what are u crazy? Man please tell me i read something wrong in a hurry. if i were you i will have a 8Ga running to the amp atleast. then figure the whinning noise.

yeah I've got a simlar setup and similar problems with hissing. When the head unit is at low volume the system works ok but with the sound above 20 I get hissing and thumping.
I also find if I have the volume up to 100% on the computer I get real bad distortion. I can only have the volume up top 30% before the sounds go.
