Talking Remotely wired faceplate! turned out really nice, check it out

well i just finished my remote faceplate. I used 2 cat 5 cables and soldered all the connections to wire it up. I mounted it inside the front A pillar because i plan to remove the stock radio and mold in a xenarc touchscreen when i money comes around.

here is some info on my ride:

I did run into one problem that im not entirely sure how to fix though. The faceplate was designed to pivot down when you wanted to insert a CD and when it would do that the faceplate would disconnect from the HU. THe problem is now that the faceplate is always connected to the HU it wont let me eject the CD because it thinks there is a faceplate in the way. Im not sure what the best way around this woudl be. maybe make some sort of disconnect in the wire? any ideas would be great, thanks

For some side note info on the other items in the picture. I molded in a 8 inch kenwood touchscreen below the radio bezel that is connected to an xbox/DVD player and my kenwood GPS system.

So your putting an additional LCD in the bezel or are you taking the kenwood out? Why so many LCD's??

The remote head unit face looks sweet there...

hmm.. i am about to do this too next week. My stereo has been stolen twice in 4 months. Couple ?s. U only could put your HU at a 60 degree angle? Is that because you still use if to play cds?
Any reason u used cat5 cables to make the connection?
if you create a disconnect in the wires, do you think that would fix the problem with ejecting the cd?

Is your faceplate still removable or not?

This is what I had in mind to do.
I still had the HU minus the face, but it was shredded on the sides when they tried to steal it. What I have done is removed the original face holder including mounting clips and connector. That way I can remote mount the face and still have it detachable. I was then gonna hard wire from this peice to the new HU that I had planned on mounting verticle. I don't use it to play cds cause its connected to a 12 disk changer and XM. I am thinking that I will need an antenna extension cable.

Any imput to help someone out?

Nice job on it though. Just curious how you see it when you are driving?

Could you use a cat5 coupler in your system. that way to disconnect your Face from the HU you could just unplug a set of the cat5 cables?

Yeah, im molding in a xenarc touchscreen and connecting it up to a computer. why you ask? because i can lol.. to be honest i molded in that kenwood before i though about using a computer.. so now im stuck with kenwood products if i want to use that touchscreen for anything else than DVD or GPS. I would like to have a computer to run all my MP3s and just for the custom effect

Im back up in school in bellingham now, a little farther away lol,,

    KMorphosis

I needed to mount it at 60 degrees or less because i do still use the CD player(well i will when i figure out how to eject the damn thing lol)
I used the cat 5 eithernet cables because there were 10 wires in each cable and i needed those to connect to each contact on the faceplate and head unit,, i figured that was the best way to keep it clean and the less loose wires the better. i dont lose any quality with the wires and so far it works great.
As for the disconnect, i sure hope so,, im still not sure how to do it yet though,, we will see
The faceplate isnt removeable, its secured in there quite well,, i suppose if someone wanted to steal it they could,, i think their prime target would be my $1500 touchscreen in the console though lol. I have video survalence i set up at my apartment complex and a kick *** alarm so i think im alright for now,, i still need to tint my front windows though
lets see, help,, i mounted the HU in the glove box so i didnt need an extension for the antenna but you may depending on where you decide to mount the head unit. I like the idea of being able to detach the faceplate, i never though of that. on mine that wouldnt work because the clips that hold the faceplate on arent connected to the front part, they are more intigrated into the head unit

as far as how i see it when im driving, you would be suprised, the optics on that faceplate are awsome and i can see it from any angle with no problem or loss of quaity at all,, i was very suprised myself. Its easier to glance over and see it on my A pillar than it is to look over and down for the origional stereo anyway, just takes some getting used to,, i really like it so far
