Connecting CarPC to the Speakers
I am trying to work out the best way to connect my imminent CarPC to my stereo system in the car.
1) Connect Aux in line - My stereo has no Aux In line and would mean that I have to buy a box that would utilise the CD Changer port, therefore loss of CD Changer. (I might need it for those days the CarPC decides not to play)
2) Changer head unit - Nah, like the one I've got.
3) FM transmitter - Heard bad reports about sound quality and interference problems.
4) Buy a small AMP and tap into the speaker wires - All 6 channels, plus mount the amp, plus supply it power, sounds like a lot of work!
my idea -
The CD changer is a factory fitted VW one. It it secured in a panel within the boot, (where the PC will also sit). The wires are visible. My plan is to cut the two audio wires, and place female Phono connectors on the 'Head unit' end and male Phono connectors on the 'CD Changer' end. This way I can plug a line out from the PC into these. Then the Head Unit thinks the CD is playing, but whilst the disc is spinning the audio feed is actually coming from the PC. Then when the inevitable happens and the CarPC refuses to play, I just reconnect the audio lines to the CD Changer and I have got the CD Changer whilst the PC is undergoing surgery. Also if i sell the car then it can also be connected back.
I have checked and the feed from my CD Changer is Analogue not Digital Coaxial.
This idea occured to me and seems far to simple. Please someone offer an idea of why it won't work !
Or if you think it will let me know.
