There's a "lineIn Plugin" for WMP that I've played with and it works very well. It takes the line in signal and makes it appear that it's an internal digital source like an mp3, then you can apply any eq/dfx/dsp that you want to it. The problem is that it takes HUGE cpu hits making any other app crawl. Also, Frodo and other frontends aren't expecting XM to come in via this route so some work would be needed. What we really are looking for is EXTERNAL processing of the signal that could be fed to the amps.

But that radio is only gonna deal with a 2-channel signal...
    so again.. no avail...

I was really hoping the radio was gonna input the radio internal digitally over
    usb... but it's not..

eh... oh well.. maybe the older extigy is our answer...

It's just amazing to me that Creative or some other tech company doesn't do more with audio for pc's. Like why is there only ONE line-in? Why would Creative tie the line-in and mic-in volume controls together? Why is mic-in only monophonic? With the huge movement to htpc, I'd think someone would build a sound processor that truly takes advantage of PC based control.
Did you get your extigy in yet to prove me right? BTW, when you get it in, install the drivers from the cd THEN download and install the updated ones from the website. I couldn't hear anything from the optical input until i installed the updated drivers. Once all that's done and you have rebooted, turn on frodo's XM app, make sure CMSS is turned on, and enjoy your multi-channel Satellite Radio!

I received the Extigy yesterday and rushed down to my car to install/compare it with the Audigy. UNFORTUNATELY, the guy I bought if from on eBay didn't include the CD!!! I went to the Creative website but all they had there was the updates available for d/l. I tried searching a bunch of warez sites but couldn't find the original cd image anywhere. I called Creative and told them I bought it from a closeout store and the disk wasn't in it. They agreed to mail me an original install disk for free, but there was no ftp/download available. So, now I'm waiting at the mailbox each day hoping the mailman will have good news!

I'm wondering what's the best way to do the sound comparison. I wonder if I can just install the Extigy software/drivers along with the Audigy and just switch cables back and forth to compare? If the Extigy plays XM on all speakers then that would outweigh slightly poorer sound overall. But I'd still like to be able to do an A/B comparison of the two units' quality.

You should have sent me a PM or something! I could have put up an iso of the cd for you.

I'm at work now so I don't have the cd with me. If you don't get it today, let me know and i'll put it up for you.

I have no idea on the comparison though, creative's drivers are large unwieldy beasts. Who knows what two sets of them would do to your pc!

    Well that just sucks.... lol...

Is there supposed to be a drastic improvement with the audigy nx over the extigy?
I've never really looked at their spec's next to each other. I assumed were both
"high end" products I'll have to peruse their website....

The one's on ebay I was looking at are actual Creative Labs refurb units they
sell thru ebay... figured safest route for a working product... at same price
