I hadn't even considered the fact that the Extigy was putting out enough power to be fed directly to a speaker. OTOH it drives my amp system (100w/channel) much better than my Audigy 2NX did. Now I can tweak the levels on my amps to less than full volume to balance the sound out and still have plenty of power to crack a window if I wish. So far I only have two issues with the Extigy: the input mixer doesn't have a selection for SPDIF-IN for recording (only "What-U-Hear" which mixes all input sources). This makes it difficult/impossible to use with things like the FrodoPlayer EQ. Also, when I come out of hibernate I sometimes lose my subwoofer and have to reboot. Anyone know how to fix this?

as for getting only the two front channels.....what is your setup? that sounds screwy....hehe
Not true. DVD-A and SACD are both 5.1 audio formats. In addition some channels on sirus are broadcasted in dolby but they don't advertise it.

Yeah I'm probably going to use an amp anyway as well. But if the Exitgy creates sound anywhere near the volume I get with my Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500 decoder, I'd be all set for volume.

As for the hibernate subwoofer problem, I'll test this out and let you know if I get the same problem.

There are several problems with some electronics not coming back online properly after hibernate. I may not use it at all, considering the system boots within about 20/30 secs even without hibernate.

Damn! My Epia M10000 Win2k takes about three minutes to come up. Hibernate resume takes about 20 seconds. Chilli, are you the same guy in the phonecontrol forum?

No, not the same guy sorry wysocki.

As for booting, Win 2K is one of the slowest operating systems. Don't get me wrong, I love Win 2K. I still run it on several machines, but it's VERY slow booting. Slower than possibly every other operating system MS put out.

Win XP is significantly faster to boot. So that would explain the time difference.

I'll still try hibernate mode, because that's even faster (maybe 10 secs??). But if I start to run in to a bunch of hardware failure errors, I'll just boot normally. Honesly, by the time I reverse out of the driveway and get halfway up the block, I'd be GTG.

    Circuit design help needed!!

Great posts on the Extigy upmixing XM. I noticed some time ago that the Audigy 2 does not upmix an external input, so I have been using an Extigy for a while now and the sound is great.
Here's my problem: I use standby for powering down, and I elimnate current draw issues by running all of my USB stuff off a powered hub. That works GREAT, with the exception of the Extigy. If I power the Extigy off my Opus (cutting power when Windows goes to standby, turning on when resuming from standby), CMSS cuts out on the external input and must be *manually* pressed on the front panel to get it to come on again. Furthermore, when resuming from standby, the Extigy power on cycle takes too much time so WMP (or FrodoPlayer, etc.) will tell me no sound card is detected -- because the computer powers on before the Extigy can.
Here's the kicker: if, instead of cutting power to the Extigy, I press the 'power' button on the front panel, everything works perfectly: Extigy will resume from standby and play music, CMSS will stay on. The problem is I don't want to manually press the power button everytime the computer turns off/on. So I need a circuit that will close the momentary switch when the Opus comes on/turns off to turn on/turn off the Extigy.
Long story short: I need a circuit that will momentarily close a switch when it detects a voltage change -- either up or down. It needs to be momentary because that's how the Extigy power switch works. I tried fooling around with relays, and I can get it to turn on when the Opus goes onm then turn off when the Opus comes on again. But I need a momentary switch, not toggle!!
Can anyone with logic circuit expertise help, please??
Thanks -- sorry if this is confusing, I'm happy to explain a little more if needed.

So if I use an Extigy with optical out to this headunit
    http://www.eclipse-web.com/cd/cd8455.html
that has optical in, then using the 3 rca's out of the HU to my front rear and sub/center to my amps, I will get 5.1 sound out of all my mp3s and cds and dvd movies as well as DTS?

not if your mp3s and CDs aren't recorded in 5.1

typcial common audio recordings are recorded in a stereo left/right format

now, some people use their computer to do some funky phantom 5.1 stuff.....but that's up to you

My audio install (currently hooked to the factory head unit) is currently being tuned. Carputer goes in in two weeks. the complete install is an Alpine install so the PXA-H701 and the RUX-C701 have been bought and hooked up.
Now the questionis, I wanna hook up my Game cube and there are 2 different options.

Option 1. Game cube Video output to the AV input in the xenarc 700tsv. Audio output to the PXA-H701. This will give me dolby 5.1 for sure

Option 2. Game cube video output to External video card hooked up to the Carputer. Audio output to Audigy 2 NX.

The only reason for option 2 is so that i can just switch to the game cube with one touch from the screen (instead of switching with the screen from pc to AV1 and the PXA from PC output to Gamecube output).
The only drawback would be the 5.1 issue that everyone with the audigy2 is suffering.

    suggestions are welcomed
