speaker setup, ears hurt...

hi i finally got my carputer setup and functional... (well not 100%), but my ears are hurting after prolonged use... the volume isn't cranked up or anything. it's wierd cause after i stop, the hurting in my ears immediately cease. it's like a a dull pain in my ear drum...

i'm wondering if i have something setup wrong... settings or general setup

can it be an audio thing cause i used to blast my HU and didn't get thing ear thing.... thanks

hmm, maybe some real high frequencies are causing this.... Do dogs start to act strange when you roll down the window? :D

It sounds like you have either really high frequency or really low frequency interference. Or you have a really strange case of motion sickness.

I know I have the same problem with my friends home theatre. I tell him I can hear some high pitch whine coming from the reciever, but he can't hear it and insists I'm crazy.

i haven't noticed dogs acting strange... but i do a lot of freeway driving (not many live dogs on the road, at least for too long) i was thinking it was high freq stuff, but i don't know if it has anything to do with intereference. the line driver cleans up and boosts the audio voltage to good levels and there's no hiss or whine when songs are quiet or when it's switching songs...

is there anthing i can check? thanks

on your EQ turn the top end all the way down for a day or two and see if it stops.

the single most likely cause of your problem would be DISTORTION, yes distortion...many people talk about it, but fewer can actually pinpoint the point that distortion actually kicks in, but your ears definely know distortion even if your brain doen't process it as such, & distortion is a very likely source of your pain.

A true high quality CLEAN undistorted & properly equalized signal can be played MUCH louder without any ear discomfort. A competition quality system can be played VERY loud with no discomfort, actually you will know your system is CLEAN when the only pain you feel is actually not in the outer ear at all, rather it feels like a sore throat kinda, like swollen glands undernieth you ears & towards your throat, acheive this & you'll truly know audio nirvana...

some people are more sensitive to distortion than others, I am so sensitive to distortion that a lot of the times that I may be forced to drive a car with a stock system I usually will have it either really really low or off altogeather rather than have to listen to distortion, not to mention totaly of timbre lousy soundstaging & a few holes in the freqency spread...

my wife was always the one to turn the radio way down & always lowering the radio saying she doesn't like loud music. I now have a competition system in my car & the difference in the volume level she will tolerate is amasing. I can creap the volume up litle by little & actually achieve a pretty good volume without any complaints from her at all, providing I happen to be playing "her kind" of music & not my normal weekday tracks which are mostly hip-hop, rap & bassy, & oh yeah, LOUD! very loud, but undistorted & sounds so good....man just thinking about it makes me want to run out to the car right now & crank some beastie boys or something.... :) oh but the neigbors might not apreciate it as much as I would...........

friendly tip, if it hurts your ears & isn't hitting 140db or more, then it probably sounds like crap....learn to apreciate what music is SUPOSED to sound like, then try to duplicate this in your car/house or whatever, your ears will thank you, your passengers will thank you, & if you ever drove me somewhere then I suppose I would thank you..........

My ears hurt and my body is numb........only cause being slammed with 3000RMS watts of bass really hurts :D

I guess you could see a doctor and see if you have tinnitus? :) just kidding that's quite a long shot :)

A bunch of questions:
Have you ever experienced this sensation before?
When did it start?
Does anything make it worse?
Have you had a runny nose or a cold lately?

Is this is a new car?..
<> are any of the windows open?
Some new car aerodynamics are sensative to various buffeting that is created by some open windows/sunroofs etc that may set up a bearly audible "helicopter" sound which many find disturbing w/o actually knowing the source.

hmm thats weird. maybe you have a grounding issue... where somethign is putting out a high pitched noise. and its true some people can hear different frequency noises than others. supposedly theres a really low freq tone which makes people sick... but who knows in your case... when i lsten to music in my car.. my head starts feeling weird lol.. you can feel your hair follicles tingling, eyes tearing up, etc..

are you hearing a ringing noise in your ear?


im so obsessed with sound.. i even have an amplifier for my headphones =P and yes it goes very loud with no distortion...
