Need help with audio install
I have a question that I hope someone will be able to give me an easy answer to. Sorry for the long post but I have no choice but to explain from beginning.
I have my carputer audio output connected to the auxiliary input of my HU. Currently I use the carputer for GPS only until I have it loaded with audio. So I am still using the HU to play regular CD or listen to the radio. The problem I have is that I can only choose to listen to GPS or CD/radio but not both at the same time.
I bought a KH style relay that can switch between two “4 wire” sources. I plan to connect the audio from carputer into the input terminals of relay and have one of the outputs connected to my HU and the other output to a simple speaker. The negative 12 volt of the HU will activate the relay and route GPS to the speaker if I am listening to radio/CD, and switch it back to HU if I am not using the radio/cd on the HU.
My question is that if the audio quality is going to suffer because I will be passing through the relay. Will I have interference, noise or cross talk because of that? How can I prevent that from happening? shielding? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
