    Hi Jan!

How much is the PC104 sized PIII/Celeron board?
I would consider this if the pricing is in line with the EPIA-boards since the size and power-requirements seems really good...

    I was thinking...
What if I removed the guts from my old cassette player, kept the amplifier and connected it to the line out of the pc, use a slot dvd for the drive, a CF for booting a live OS (maybe some handmade XP embedded). I might also try to use-modify the PSU of the head unit.
    Any thoughts on that approach?
Well maybe with nano-itx things would be more easy...

I'm not sure if you can fit indash-lcd along with the dvd-rom and mobo into 1Din case.
It just too much for a single unit. Other that that, you can get all the drawings from my side to build the 1Din metal case for EPIA-M mobo.

EPIAM-M fits with snap-in DC-DC power suply (such as PW-70A), slimline DVD and CF/IDE card adaptor in 1DIN chassis. All you have to do is use low profile memory and lower (then standart) standoffs for motherboard. tested.

I don't remember where I found it, but I did find somewhere online that was selling "1-din" sized project enclosures. I can't remember if it was plastic or aluminum, or what. If you search on this forum, you may find the link, but I don't exactly remember where I found it (whether it was on here or not).

Give me a little bit, and I may find it again.

Most electronics parts houses will have a 7x7x2 project box. The ones near me do, but they were too pricey for me (20 bucks) so I just bought a 4 dollar sheet of galvanized steel from Home Depot and bent one up myself in a vise with a hammer. It isn't perfect, but it will end up being hidden where ever it ends up. If it was to be visable, then I would have gotten the project box.

I wish I has the skills and tools to do something like this: http://www.indashpc.org/hardware.html but I would have to compromise on the setup in some way with that case.

jbors> well i have been doing some callculations, and it should be just possible, taking the lcd apart and seperating the controller board from the LCD itself and making an enclosure for just the LCD. But it remains to be seen :-)
