    Name this electrical item

    Well, im designing some additions to my existing system and i cant seem to figure out for the life of me what the name of the motors are called that are used to move objects like amp racks, doors, enclosures. they are a 12v motor with a screw attached (ram type). lemme know...

    are you talking about a stepper motor with a worm gear?

    linear actuator? i think they use screw jacks.

    I am looking for this type of Actuator too, looked all over, the only ones I found were too expensive. If you guys know any source of reasonably priced ones pleas list them.

    I might know a guy that was selling 2 linear actuators with a 6 inch throw, I think it was 75 pounds per actuator or something. He wanted 100 for both, but dont know if they are still for sale.

    They are VERY expensive though, I asked the guy about his, and they cost him 200 a piece.

    Expect to spend 100 or more for each one.

    Edit: If you are just moving an amp rack, a stepper motor may work as previously posted. Then you could probably get the cost down to 50 or so
